Well leave it to Ann Coulter to spell out the nearly identical political views of Republicans and Democrats in the US. She goes so far as to say that if McCain gets nominated, she will vote for Clinton over him:

My question is, do you think she genuinely favors Clinton over McCain, or is this a stunt to woo the Democratic Party to nominate Clinton over Obama? Does she feel that Republican's are so unlikely to win, that she will throw her support towards a more moderate democratic candidate?

I think it's a publicity stunt. Everything she says is so outrageous, so she's probably trying to outdo herself by saying she'll vote for a democrat after a lifetime of trashing them.

I think so too. I listen to the Stephanie Miller show and she has said she knew Ann Coulter back in the 90's and said she wasn't as crazy back then so I wouldn't be surprised. For whatever reason the establishment republicans don't like him even though he's totally on their side by looking at his voting record. He even wouldn't mind a theocracy like they want. But the republicans really want Hillary because they have years of dirt on her and their base hates her for whatever their own reasoning was. Even Limbaugh recently said it'd be easier to beat her than Obama.

she is so crazy she's laped herself in the race to see who is the most bat-shit nuts in the country

I think she's serious. She really really doesn't like McCaine and she is correct: they are essentially the same.

If they're essentially the same why would she vote for Clinton over McCain? It doesn't make any sense.

The following would be funny if Clinton wasn't so awful:

McCain wins the nomination
He loses to Hillary Clinton
Coulter is driven out of her career by millions of furious Republicans.

because she's an idiot.

My best guess is that "Ann Coulter" is a fictional character that she performs for money. Whether she believes the nonsence she spews, or not, is quite immaterial: it is what she does for a living. And of course, being "Ann Coulter" requires breaking records in outrage whenever possible.

She is to be taken with a whole Salt Lake if you ask me...

You know she had a thing/fling with Bill Maher? As he put it (I think these are the exact words), "She's different when she's coming".

Gives some weight to the theory that she's just messing with us all.

He (http://www.casadice.com/signs/pages/outside_sign091.htm), however, is not. And that's scary as hell. Scroll through a couple of the signs, there're arrows at the bottom.

I like the bit about getting the Democrats to nominate Clinton over Obama. That could be it. If Hillary Clinton wins the nomination she still won't be able to win the election because so many people just hate her.

I agree completely. She's the Madonna of American politics.
