View Full Version : Differentiating resistance to imperialism?

There's sort of a simple question that seems to have difficult consequences, and it doesn't seem to have been well addressed (though perhaps I'm mistaken), so I'd like to ask it. If you look at Vietnam and the NLF, it seems quite easy to support their fight against American attacks - not just because it's self-defence, but because their domestic ideology isn't difficult to get behind. I don't think this is the case with, say, Hizbullah, who have obvious and open theocratic leanings, even though much of their fight against Israel is legitimate defence. Does this/should this/how should it affect the Western left in their opposition to specific instances of imperialism?

I don't think it should have any effect on our stance towards imperialism. Of course, one should not support oppressive movements that are at the same time anti-imperialist, but the good thing about modern imperialism is that there are so many points that can be attacked that we don't need to side with religious fundamentalists.

I agree, I don't support those fundamentalist's phylosphy(pardon the spell) but I do suppor the fact, that they're fighting to defend their land and themselves.
