A topic that has been touched on numerous time on various threads, but never really explored since I signed up anyway.
How do folks stand on the issue of bands/artists who self promote/distribute/record as opposed to those who sign to majors?

You might aswell look up the RATM threads or something.
But in a nutshell, there's no simple outlook here. Being DIY is more intune with radical politics, but is very... sceney. Whereas, being on a major labels gives the opportunity of reaching a wider audience, and maybe radicalise more people outside of those already radical. But, an argument against this is simply - it isn't working.
Personally, I prefer DIY, but won't ex-communicate a band for not being so, though I'll gladly criticise them for being possible sellouts.

Above post are about my views. The thing is political DIY bands usually are preaching to the converted because usually the only ones into DIY music are already leftists.
