Greetings Comrades!
I am new to this forum, as you know. I have a youtube account with the same name as this. I am generally only active on youtube on weekdays. I am a Communist, and am proud to be a communist. Communism, I believe, is the only thing that can liberate the oppressed. Only in a communist society is there true democracy.
Even though I am a Communist, I am also a devout Christian. I have been a Christian for a few years now, and have been a liberal Christian since last year. If you are not a Christian, I will not try to convert you.

Hey there comrade. You'll fit right in as there is much discussion about the relationship between communism and religion. You'll find both rabid atheists and people such as yourself. Dig right in and enjoy your stay. :D

people such as yourself.
There's like... him, and Edric O. And then the rest of the membership seems to be quite secular. Oh well.
But a gigantic welcome to you from me and may your stay here be enjoyable. A warning: Don't attempt to pet Jazzratt, he bites and I think he can smell Christianity.

But he is secularist:
If you are not a Christian, I will not try to convert you.
And I'm pretty sure Edric O is a secularist too. :)

Hey bro, welcome to the board. I see no contradiction between what I see religion is essentially about and what communism seeks to achieve.
There are a lot of people on this board that are really spiteful towards religion, and really they are just making unnecessary enemies.
Telling everyone that we're going to take your Bibles and Qurans away is creating another barrier to socialism and communism in peoples minds.
Religions can progress and reform- there are some very radical and progressive religious people that interpret their religions in ways entirely compatible with the objective of a classless, stateless society.
This true, whether one thinks that they are violating their religion and aren't in fact christian or muslim or whatever is beside the point.
Welcome.

Yeah well, atheism and secularism are not the same thing. A secularist is basically one who asserts that institutions should exist seperately from religion while an atheist is one who rejects belief in theism and the supernatural.
So it's possible to be a religious secularist. :)
EDIT: Actually you're kinda right, to be secular means you're not religious. But AFAIK it's a more neutral approach towards religion than the approach of an atheist.

While I consider myself a technocrat and member of the human progress group, I'm not against christianity either, or people's right to believe in it, in fact i see a lot of parallels between the objectives of christianity and socialism.
What annoys me is the way right wingers have hijacked it to further the cause of conservatism, homophobia and mindless loyalty to capitalist governments.

secular means to belong to no specific religion, but it doesnt necessarilly mean to be against religion either.

Actually you're right and I was wrong I think. :)
If you're secular you're not concerned with religion.
If you're a secularist then you believe in the separation of certain institutions and religion.
If you're an atheist you don't believe in God or deities.
So it's possible to be a religious secularist, but not a religious secular.
The difference between being secular and being atheist is that secular people take a neutral stance to religion while atheists take a more anti-religious stance.
Correct me if I'm wrong. ;)
