From Rights to Resistance

[size=14]MAY DAY CONFERENCE AND MASS ACTION

We live in a society that stigmatizes the poor, marginalizes minorities, treats womyn as commodities and works hard to ensure the profits of big business at the expense of the broad masses of people. At the same time, our society claims to be "democratic" and respectful of the principles of dignity and human rights.

What are these rights that society talks about and do we really have rights if our government can take them away at the drop of a hat? We are told that we have rights that are guaranteed under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms but the only real rights guaranteed to some of the people in Canada are the right to starve, the right to be homeless, the right to be oppressed.

On May 24 join the K-W Youth Collective and groups and individuals from accross the province to discuss these issues, the nature of rights in our society, and what we must do to protect our rights.

As human beings, we have inherent rights that no government can grant, deprive, or take away. The people must unite and build a strong front to reclaim these rights through struggle and solidarity.
