I have a great concern. The Media aimed at the latino community. It's scary how right wing it is. and It saddens me that people like my parents, hard working and humble folks are being fed this shit daily by Univision.
I remember when I lived in Miami and I was only 11.. when I first moved to the US from Mexico.. its all we watched and I never questioned or second guess anything that came out of Jorge Ramo's mouth. And its such an irresponsibility to broadcast to working peoples homes so much fucking slander and propaganda, so fucking bias and I think we have a responsibility to combat that. maybe make shorts? some youtube channel? public access and documentary? Im concern... I can't stress that enough.

It's not just Univision, but the whole media in general. It's not news, it's propaganda. The media is one of the biggest reasons the masses are so uneducated about, well, EVERYTHING.
Fortunately, it seems more and more people are waking up to this fact. But the problem is that they feel helpless to combat it. As for combatting it, I'd like to know that myself.

I wonder if Univision/Spanish language Media is different in Miami than in PR (I barely see it, I just use the internet. My dad either watched the news in English here or sees Puerto Rican news in Spanish).
All I do know is that the newspaper here as a strong anti-Castro/Chavez bent and barely talks anything positive about either.
Is it anti-immigrant (Univision/Spanish Langauge news) where you are at (or in Miami)?

It's all a bunch of bullshit they put on. The "news" programs like En Rojo Vivo or Primer Impacto never criticize or put George Bush or the USA in a negative light even when ICE was raiding immigrant communities. Obviously they don't think twice about doing this to Cuba or Venezuela. Most of the news covers that are not political cover some sort of mystical story, about some psychic, Christian entity apparition, or "brujah". They even dedicate their slot time to Walter the Zodiac reader. Same goes for the local news station on Univision.
Jerry Perenchio (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A._Jerrold_Perenchio), the founder of Univision, is a large contributor to the Republican (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republican_Party_%28United_States%29) advocacy organization "Progress for America (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progress_for_America)", having given US$4,000,000 in the 2004 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004) election cycle and another US$5,000,000 in the 2006 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006) election cycle. Election records show over $18mm in donations to Republican candidates, party funds and related causes as of 2006. That pretty much lays it out as to why what is shown is as biased as it is. Funny to note that Jerry and its current CEO Joe Uva are Italian-Americans, with Joe not being able to speak Spanish at all.
