I was discussing Christianity with the wife over breakfast this morning, and ended up explaining the idea of the resurrection to her. She was really shocked that anybody could believe something so ludicrous, and I am not sure if she believed my assurances that it is something that all Christians believe.
It is even more ridiculous than Islam was one of her comments.

Unfortunately, that is the sort of crap that people in many Christian countries grow up with. From an early age, you are absorbed into Christian religion, even if you're aren't from a religious family. Many children in Britain sing hymns in primary schools (ages 4-11) even though most,if not all, don't care at all about religion. My dad was a Catholic choirboy when he was little, although now he thinks Catholicism is too rigid.
The resurrection has led to Easter, with all its chocolate eggs 9the word Easter comes from an old English word, Eostre, which Christianity took from paganism). Of course, like Christmas, it has become heavily commercialised and is now basically about giving people chocolate and chocolate eggs.

Everyone should read the bible (that is privately, not in school or anything) so as to know just how fucked up it is.

It was just something that struck me about how we don't really question what is in our own religion. Even though we may not believe in it, we tend not to think that it is as absurd as a Hindu elephant headed God for example, but when you think about Christianity, the guy dying and coming back to life is pretty bizarre, really.
When ı told her that that was what the Christians believe, she was generally shocked. When I said that it is no more absurd then Mohammed going straight up to heaven when he died, she sort of demurred.

Holy shit then it must be bad!
I mean those people, like, aren't they, like, the ones who have big black beards and wear towels and blow themselves up because Islam told them to?

Personally I always thought the clincher was a guy hearing a bush (that happened to be aflame and a hotline to god) talking to him.
He then proceeded to convince an entire people to follow him wondering about in a desert wasteland for four decades.
Then he wandered off up a mountain alone and just so happened to came back with some laws from god.
Then and this is the really great part he broke the tablets with the laws on so nobody could check he was telling the truth.
Doesn't this sound like an odd way to base the morality for roughly a third of the planet?

Of all the major abrahamic religions, Christianity is deffinately the most wacky. I'd take Judaism or Islam any day over Christianity. Even Gnosticism makes more sense than Athanasian Christianity.
Fot an example of how wacky Christianity is, look at this wonderful explaination of the Trinity:
