I'm not to familiar with the particulars of the writers strike.
But i just had a question as to the demands of the writers. Are they asking for a fair wage, because they simply aren't making enough to get by. Or are they asking for an additional $100,000 to go with their first $300,000 a year salary.

They're asking for a cut of the money that their companies make from selling the content they helped produce on DVD and streaming online...
As it is now, even though the writers were integral in creating the programs they are paid only for what they write and as much as the studio wants to syndicate the content, the writers will never earn any more...
Or at least that's the jist I've taken.

The writers are asking for a small cut (about 2.5%) of the profits generated from internet content. So when media companies put the stuff they write on the internet and sell ads for it or stuff like that, the writers want a small chunk of that. Writers are workers too; they use their labor power to produce scripts, which the media company takes and turn into profit which does not go to the producer of the value.
