You really have no idea. Last year I was attacked by a gusano mob. Fortunately, it was just a bunch of old men who attacked. The big burley guys stayed on the other side of the street. Then my idiot local party chair decided to post my home address all over the web, so needless to say, I was a bit frightened.
Just recently, dumb-ass Medea Benjamin and National Code Pink decided it would be a great idea to have an anti Luis Posada rally at the heart of Little Havana. They got chased out in January and came back again in February. This time the police presence was strong enough to keep them from getting attacked, but as I warned, a local was attacked. A journalist who was interviewing both sides got assaulted when he went back over to talk to the gusanos. I don't think he was hurt that badly.
The gusanos haven't killed anyone recently, but not for lack of trying. The key witness against Posada found a pipe bomb next to his car (then like a dumbass, put it in his car and drove to the police station with it). The leader of the progressive Cubans in Miami (yes, Virginia, they do exist) lives in hiding, as his two predecessors were both assassinated.
On the flip side, some of the local activists down here have a personal grudge against the gusanos, and seek to antagonize them every chance they get. Frankly, their influence is waning. They are a dying breed, and I'd just as soon leave them alone in Little Havana to plot their little conspiracies, run around in the 'Glades reliving the Bay of Pigs, and drink cuba libres in the hot tropical sun and die.

Well, I barely see them since I live in a place mostly with new South American people but the experience I had with them makes me dislike their reactionary attitude/politics, etc.
Although, the younger generation is probably quite ok to hang out with (although I barely see Cubans where I live. Although I've meet some Cuban fidelistas here in Miami and they introduced me to this site.) than the older gusano generation and maybe, politic wise, than some of the younger people who live in my area (ugh, conservatives. They don't exist, or I didn't know any, {or they are not like the American ones} in Puerto Rico where I was from.).
