Well-heeled protests hit Shanghai
By Quentin Sommerville BBC News, Shanghai
Rarely have protests in China been so well organised, or the protesters so well-dressed. The residents of Pingyang district, in the south of the city, say their health is at risk and their homes will become worthless if a planned extension to Shanghai's futuristic maglev railway goes ahead.
The general jist of the article is about how the new Chinese middle class has engaged in a rare protest, become almost uniquely political for this specific occasion, that sort of thing. But I thought it was interesting, there's a lot here, China, politicization of different classes, shifting class structure, and especially, the character of the BBC's commentary.
I'd be especially interested in hearing from people who have specific knowledge about the China situation.
