Hey there everyone. My name (as you may have guessed) is Alastair, and I'm going to start taking part in RevLeft. I'm 16, live in Dunedin, New Zealand, am an active member of the Workers Party of New Zealand (http://www.workersparty.org.nz), as well as a union delegate at the supermarket I work in for the National Distribution Union. (http://www.ndu.org.nz)
I'm a Marxist-Leninist-Maoist, but have nothing against Trotskyites (hell, I used to be one! :P ), about half of the WP's members are Trots, with the other half being of the pro-Mao variety.
I'm looking forward to taking an active part in these forums, although I also take part in NationStates and a forum related to that.
To the threads! :)

That's true, it is a nice place. But don't fall into the trap of seeing it as some kind of "liberal democratic verging-on-socialist paradise", like a lot of people do. Sure, we have free healthcare, but the waiting lists are years long, and there are hidden costs. We have a hell of a lot of poverty, and we are no less a capitalist sh*thole than any other country, just in different ways.
It tends to rain quite a bit down here too. :D

I feel that you can't call yourself a Communist if you're not actively involved in a communist organisation and in RL struggle related to communism. If you're not, you're just a rebellious kid playing at being a "revolutionary".

Haha no. I meant the environment and scenery. :/
Lord of the Rings and all that... =P

I agree, but don't be so quick to judge since many of our members are still figuring out what they believe in, what organization (if any) they want to join...but yeah...those who talk about revolution and class struggle without referring to everyday reality have a corpse in their mouth.

LOTR did to New Zealand what Crocodile Dundee did to Australia, and the scars will probably never completely heal. :P

I was like that once, so I'm not going to be all hoity-toity "I'm a REAL revolutionary leftist" towards them. Even if it's true...
