writing a book or a script?

i think one of my life long dreams is to write a book or a movie. I have clip notes here and there of ideas and I never really gave it much thought about developing a story or what not. I was on the train the other day and I just started frees styling a potential movie script about a young guy who while on probation cleaning up the streets for community services meets a radical left wing ex convict that makes him look at the world in a whole other light. Obviously this is to some extend based on some personal events, which makes it easier to write.

I mean the ideas I wrote down and how it would play it seem like i hit the nail in the head with this. I think many young people can relate to this and I'm basically trying to develop the characters more and some sort of plot and what not. However I don't know if I should turn this into some sort of fiction book? with obvious facts though. just not like a biography.. or should i make a movie script?

any of you here with experience on this?

Well, it would depend on what you want to do.

If you want to write a book and have it actually published, then you'd need to write ~60,000 words minimum for it to be considered a novel. Anything less than that is a novella, and if I remember correctly, not many publishers take novellas though I could be wrong.

As for writing a script, that might be a little easier, but it's very different from writing a book in terms of layout. I'm sure you can go online and find a guide on how to set up a script.
