On the capitalist side, there are people who say Marxist-Leninist countries like China and the Soviet Union were "command economies". For most everyone else, they're seen as "state capitalist". How accurate are these labels?
All command economy means is the state controls what is produced, for example all the major powers during WWII were command economies, production was controlled by the state towards the war effort. State capitalism means the state plays the role of capitalist and it is the state trying to accumulate capital through the exploitation of labor.
Meaning the USSR and Mao's China were both command economies and state capitalist, production was controlled by the state and the state played the role of a capitalists exploiting labor to try accumulate wealth through exports.
