All Events Are In Chicago Unless Otherwise Noted...

80 Organizations Co-sponsor
February 15th PROTEST IN CHICAGO!

As part of the INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PROTEST
Against War on Iraq!

In the largest Chicago anti-war coalition effort in several years, some 80 organizations are pooling their efforts for the Saturday, February 15th protest against war on Iraq and attacks on immigrants at home:

12 noon - SHARP!
Saturday, February 15, 2003
2200 W. Devon, Chicago
(Devon & Leavitt in the heart of Chicago's Pakistani community)

February 15th is an international day of protest against war on Iraq, with huge protests planned in New York, San Francisco and all the major capitals of Europe. It is also just 6 days before the "registration" deadline for many Pakistanis in the United States, the same "registrations" which led to the arrests of more than 1000 Iranians in Los Angeles a few weeks ago. The targeting of innocent immigrant communities does nothing to diminish terrorism, but is instead part of the Bush administration's attempt to stampede the nation into war by fanning irrational fears towards people from other races, countries and cultures. Therefore Chicago's march will have BOTH an anti-war and anti-racist theme.

There is now a NEW WEBSITE for complete travel and other information about the protest as it becomes available:

Emergency Response Plan to War & Racism
Sponsored by the Chicago Coalition Against War & Racism
and other groups

IF the U.S. launches another full-scale war on Iraq, the anti-war movement must respond, putting an end to the war as quickly as possible. With this in mind, CCAWR has developed an emergency response plan to protest the spread of war abroad & further attacks on civil liberties at home:

1. IF the U.S. starts a full-scale war on Iraq, a protest will take place at 5 pm at the Federal Plaza, Adams & Dearborn Streets, Chicago, the day the bombing begins, with a follow up protest at the same time & place the day after.

2. The morning after the attack (or the next business day if it happens on a weekend), a civil disobedience action sponsored by the Iraq Peace Pledge will take place at 8 am at the Federal Building, 230 S. Dearborn.

3. In the event of a provocative attack on community leaders or organizations in the Chicago area, CCAWR has constructed a phone tree to mobilize the community to quickly protest the attack, whether at a police station, federal government office, or other appropriate place.

To get on the Emergency Response phone tree / e-mail list and receive regular calendar updates such as this one, send your contact information to [email protected]

Stickers, posters and flyers announcing the Emergency Response Plan are now available! Contact [email protected] to arrange for pick up or delivery.
