I think this is the correct section for the thread.
What is your opinion about the KKE (Communist Party of Greece)? Some trotskyists and anarchists I know dismisses them as being totally Stalinists and bureaucrats. The members of the KKE I know are telling me to join the party and I thought I should make a thread to gather some opinions about the party, if some of you know.

I know them as being one of the most vocal opponents of Trotskyism around. However, they seem to be gaining support in Greece; hopefully they'll pursue a revolutionary course.

Do it. Its one of the most important, non-reformisit and active communist parties in the Europe and a major participant in regrouping the international communist movement. The revolutionairy legacy, achievements and the mass support of the KKE negates trot/anarchist rethoric. Its a marxist-leninist party with has enough room for democratic centralist discussion in applying their line, accompanied by excellent revolutionary leninist dicipline. They are also extremely grassrooted. Its one of the major forces behind neo-liberalism in the EU and organizes alot of europewide conferences to help progressive workers and communist parties to learn from each others experiences and form a united strategy.
We have a few KNE students in amsterdam helping us building up our section there :)

It's a somewhat big party, in the last election their support went up from 5,89% to 8,15%.
However their secterianism seems to be holding them from reaping all the benefits of the swing to the left in Greece, their leadership have been known to split the movement.
But if your thinking of joining I think the wisest would be to check it out yourself and maybe look at the rest of the left in Greece also instead of asking people on an international discussion board.

Thank you, I am doing of course my background check here in Greece, but I would also like to know some international opinions concerning the Party's affiliations and image outside Greece and stuff like that.

Well my oppinion is that they seem to have a strong secterian side, but the membership seems dedicated and militant. The KNE membership (the communist students) even managed to push their leadership to support the student strikes in 2006, at first the KNE leadership went against the strikes and had a policy of strikebreaking, but the membership pushed them away from that.

In addition to the studentstrikes, the KKE decided to broaden their struggle to the interlinked privatisations in higher education all over europe and is for example organizing a exhange meeting with progressive and communist youth organisations in Brussel this January.
The KNE has also made some great documentaries lately , even one on Imperialist ties to the Gaming Industry :)

And one about the ongoing McCarthyte anti-communist campaigns by the EU

Having actually met KNE comrades recently, I'd like to respond to this thread. The KKE are the third party of Greece, with a strong and dedicated membership, as well as the youth movement KNE. The KNE recently hosted a seminar on higher education in Brussels, where we talked about the Bologna process, which will lead to increased privatization of our universities. This is done at the behest of the big two parties of Greece, the conservative ND and the "socialist" PASOK. The Greek communists have consistently struggled against this, unlike the "left party" of Synapsismos.
More info on the seminar: http://www.kne.gr/english.html

Awesome. It's great to hear about communist parties that have that kind of mass support. Considering that even on this forum, we have people who say that "communism is dead" (or at least, marxism-leninism), they can easily be proved wrong.
In fact, looking at the seminar, I thought of something else. A lot of folks on the left go on about the need for more internationalism. But only the real communists actually practice internationalism by exchanging views and sharing solidarity in struggle.

It's interesting, the reaction you've encountered from Trotskyists about this party, as I've been confronted (on this site) about how Stalin supposedly 'did them in' back in the day. It was, in reality, the Titoites who can be credited with hurting that organization back in the 50's.

Well it makes sense Marxism-Leninism would be more influential in Greece, seeing as the result of 'anarchist' Titoism is literally staring at them in their Balkan backyard. I have to lol at people calling them 'sectarianism' when you look at the Titoists and what happened to Yugoslavia next door to Greece.
