HELLO COMRADES: Check out this great comment made by a concerned Austrian about the economic model of Ron Paul 'neoliberalism', and how it is a big rape waiting to happen:

I can understand that Americans are aching for a 'savior', and for an alternative to the two party system -
I do not doubt that Ron Paul is a good man, with good intentions -
Even I can understand the allure of liberalism, I can absolutely, perfectly understand why Liberatarianism so appeals to Americans, and under duress, I would probably choose that direction myself - if I were American.
Afterall, your Jefferson liked it; borrowed heavily from it, and even sprinkled the Constitution with it, quite liberally so. And he most certainly wasn't the only Founding Father to do so.

Personal freedom, property rights, minimal power of the state, opposition to a welfare state, opposition to conscription. The right to use force to defend property, and, tataaaaaaaaaaa . . above all: the concept of a Free Market.
Sounds as American as Apple Pie, doesn't it? Even though it is as Austrian as Apple Strudel . . .
Look in Barnes and Noble, even your Milton Friedman ("Flat Earth") wrote his neoliberal, little heart out about it.

So.
Yes, I can see why many good, decent hard-working Americans with a brain, intuitively would lean towards Liberatarianism:
Classic liberalism bundled with American values and conservatism. What's not to like??

The Austrian model is based on the principle of small government, strict protection of personal and property rights, AND stable, social conditions in a mutually accepted society!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It works here in Austria, after having matured, and after having mutated through many, many stages, some of them not pretty. It works, because the theory is based, and practiced, on balancing economic productivity with positivist humanistic, social conditions. This Theory has evolved through many cycles, and has morphed into a kind of mainstream neoclassical economic theory/model, very much still in use today, here in Austria.
Free market, YES!
Individual rights, YES!
Austrians are convinced that one can balance vigorous, economic development, individual rights, and a socialistic state without breaking out in hives, or in a sweat.
Many South American countries are giving this concept a whirl as well, with their own local color and spin, of course.

But Austrians also outright REJECT the idea that humans can be reduced to capital, to business cycles, to economic processes.
That's why they got into it with Germans so bad, at the turn of the century. Methoden Streit, it is called,
involving the usual suspects, like Marx, Hegel, et al.
The Germans disputed that one can implement an economic model without employing statistical methods, lab experiments and scientific calculations. Austrians countered that deductive logic does not need to be scientifically proven, and that economics need to BENEFIT the humans who generate it, therefore it will always fluctuate and vary, right along with the pesky humans, who will determine supply and demand, supply it, or not, who the hell is going to measure that and how, so let us just go with the flow.

Anyways . . your Alan Greenspan, for example, was/is a big fan of the Austrian Economic Theory.

And that is my point.
It can't, it just won't work in the USA!
Unless you create a society in which its citizens are empowered, strong, healthy, and in total charge of the government they, themselves created.
And Planet Amerika is light-years from that, admit it!

So, I find myself confounded that so many American are now looking towards Ron Paul, and Liberatarianism as the answer to all their problems. This I do NOT get!!!

So, Liberatarianism in America, to me at least,
is nothing more than the brutal union of the individual rights of property owners and the unfettered interests of Big Business . . . .
Nothing more than another rape waiting to happen.

Corinna, that's a very perceptive posting you made. The problem here in the USA is that we don't have many perceptive citizens. Ignorance has been bliss for many years, decades I would say.

So, my take on why so many are grasping for Ron Paul is simply DESPERATION now that the bliss is wearing off. And, I can understand why they feel desperate. Many of Paul's followers seem to suffer from the savior complex. Nothing new there.

The other important fact is that Paul will never be allowed the presidency. But, let's assume for a second that there still is democracy in America and Ron Paul were elected by the pissed off sheeple. What's going to happen to all of the very powerful entrenched interests that own this country? Would President Paul just execute a signing statement to wipe them out? Dream on.

What many people also don't realize is that Ron Paul is not a representative of the people. He's a representative of the "free market." He seems to think that private enterprise will somehow come to the rescue of the poor and disenfranchised (of which there will be increasing numbers as the middle class disappears).

Libertarianism might sound good on paper, especially when you're desperate for change, but I believe many people who are following this man really have no idea what the deal is, and what the outcomes could very well be.

Lastly, I would say that in addition to becoming more educated about politics and public policy, Americans should remember that the enemy of my enemy isn't necessarily my friend. Ron Paul is not spearheading a revolution of the people, just a revolution in how they're enslaved.
