a while back, cant remember who.. brought up a good idea. that we should organize some sort of leftist podcast. I volunteered to do it. since i had the .mac account the the tools for the job. Well i tried it and I got a few bumps in the road both technical and personal. ANYWAYS I bought me a cool lil book on how to do podcast using the stuff i got. just so that I can have a better idea and some structure. for some reason having a book just makes me feel more "official"

I still don't know how we are going to do this. My knowledge is not all the way up there for me to spend 15 to 30 mins talking intelligently about leftist issues and what not. I'm going to need some help. here are my ideas.

1. I know some of you have blogs. maybe one of you can record your blog send it to me, or just summarize the points and include questions for the listeners to ask them selves and what not. Or maybe can read the blogs on the podcast and have opinions posted on the page im going to set up or on here. maybe direct people to a podcast forum?? i dunno!

2-I would like to have for example "guest" discussing political events and giving their "2 cents" and what not. again these people are gonna have to find a way to record themselves, project loud enough and clear enough to make it audible and interesting. etc. etc.

3. can we play music in between subjects? revolutionary music and what not? is this legal?

OK. NOW who can help me out? I think we need to set up a team. I feel that I can have the page and podcast up in running in 2 weeks. we need to prep our material too for the week or so.

thank you.

I'd be all over a RS2K podcast. There's no shortage of material...

I think we should make a youtube leftist show. More people are on youtube and we can have plenty of political battles there, spreading our message to many people.

I mean that could definitely be a concept of the podcast or video cast. but I'm really looking more into a grassroots approach. you know?

for example.. I'd like to have a brief, straight to the point interview with an average worker. someone who is not class conscious at all even! Just have the worker point out various things they see and are unhappy about within their work place, community and just society in general.

And have socialist, anarchist, and communist point out the flaws in the capitalist system, and just encourage organization and class consciousness. Basically make people answer their own questions.

But I don't want to preach, or order people around. I think this method will ease people into thinking and figuring out on their own. some never get a second opinion on other alternatives of living. and I believe this will be their second opinion and so on.

I think that would be the majority of the content of this pod or video cast...

I also would like to include some headlines, music, and culture. what do-ya-think??

this is the bulletin i posted on myspace

starting next year I will be launching a podcast show based around people politics, social issues that effect all. it's going to be light on theory and all the non-sense dogmatic crap and It will be more direct and fresh!

the main idea is to include everyday stories of people we know, and our selves and compared them, associate the problems we have with the ills of capitalism and prove how we are all share the same problems and common enemy.

I will need people to help me by providing topics, references and maybe even some of their time.

please message me for more info and if you would like to help!

Well here's a link to my/LeftyHenry/a bunch of other people's blog. I'm currently working on another project, so I haven't been able to write much myself, however the other members write very concise stuff on a regular basis. Link (http://riseresistrevolt.blogspot.com/)

The RS2K page is connected to rev-left, but I forgot where the link is/what the name is. I just downloaded all of his stuff as a .rar WinRAR file so I just read it off of my hard drive.

I wouldnt mind helping out at all. Perhaps we read transcripts of speeches (or actual recordings!) and play some music too with leftist leanings, perhaps to shed some light on the actual meanings of some songs.

I myself dont have a blog, but I know someone who could also help.

In short, I'm in.

Hey guys.. thanks for getting back at me. I understand that there are other blogs and such pod cast already out. thats good. but one more wouldn't hurt. Did you guys read the part on how I plan to make mine different? for example.. here's what i said..

I don't know where you guys live or what kind of computer you have. do you have ways to record your self? and email me mp3's? or maybe record a brief interview of a worker like I pointed and send it to me so that I can organize the podcast. etc.? or perhaps you want to offer the commentary on what the interviewer was saying. etc.?

I think it be also best if anyone out there that is interest and has means to record interviews either via telephone, skype or in person and can upload them to me over Mp3 or something.. we can work together.

I have a fairly decent macbook (my bourgeois is showing  ) and the technical means of recording and what have you.

I know a ton of links to upload MP3s to or I can get some server space from a friend if needed.

and I can do some mean commentary

I'd be willing to help you with this idea. I think it might be worthwhile to work with other sites and include other content from RevLeft. For example:

-Readings of pieces from Rise! Resist! Revolt!, a blog maintained by members of RevLeft from across the radical spectrum, and other blogs of RL members.

-Selections from the RS2K papers

-Articles from the Article Submissions subforum

-News from the Newswire, Infoshop.org, local Indy Media outfits, and other leftist news sites

-Reports on workers' actions from the Worker Actions subforum

-Quotes from recent RevLeft posts (for example, a news story on the assassination of Benazir Bhutto could include quotes from Spirit of Spartacus and other comrades who've posted on the subject).

-Accounts of actions or struggles RevLeft members are involved in, from the members themselves

-Profiles of different lesser-known revolutionaries throughout history

-Sections similar to the ones we have on the site, like, a portion devoted to politics, one to history, one to discrimination, a profile on a new leftist band or artist, a DIY howto, etc.

I'd be willing to help where I could. The question, I guess, would be whether the project is worthwhile or not. Would people listen to it? What would be the goal of the program? Who would it's target audience be? How would we reach them?

It could happen, no doubt. Projects like this are a great asset to the movement, but without a comprehensive plan they tend to fade away quick.

Yeah, I think your ideas are great. We can definitely make this happen.

I haven't listened to any of these broadcasts, but if you're looking for ideas or tips on structure and such, Infoshop.org had an audio project a year or so ago: http://infoshop.org/page/Audio

Time permitting, and it will be a bit in the future b/c I've got some other side projects now, I'll offer to read some classic texts that aren't copy written (e.g. the 18th brumaire, anarchist faq, etc...) for a "book on mp3" type thing.
