So I was watching this show on VH-1 music channel the other day that consisted of a music countdown of "the top 100 songs of the 90's" some of the recording artist were people like Gerardo with his one hit wonder "Rico Suave" and Lost Boys small person rapper Bushwick Bill among others.
It's not an exaggeration by my part but I did notice that many of these recording artist of the past who have fail to hail any more hits or either were disappointed with the recording business have not given up on music for say, but have decided to make it for their lord and savior Jesus Christ instead.

It's like these whole other person has taken charge and things are better ever since they "let god into there lives" To the point they just seem happier? or maybe just conformed? Not sure.

I personally don't think there's anything wrong if people need god to change their lives in a positive way and in the process help people along the way. I happen to think that genuine people of faith have lots of offer others.

BUT! at the same time I don't think that this humbling new surrender to god and accepting him is all that progressive for the general well being of humanity. maybe it is on a PERSONAL level and for a group of religious people. And it does disappoint me that we are losing people who have the potential to reach many with their music and contacts to a non-revolutionary, non-progressive cause... why?

Is it the same facade of guilt that religion installs in people? That after a life of sin in the music business is time to turn in and give your life to god? UGH! It's just frustrating

And also, one last thing... It's obvious that the business is cruel and for many reasons these artist can't adjust and generate an other hit or successful music campaign to match their first, giving up and falling off the eye is consider failure and brings criticism. BUT if you do all these with the excuse of "becoming a new born christian" or "letting god into your life" it's consider good and avoids you ridicule since it's for god, right?

oh please! <_<

Perhaps they turn to recording Christian music because it sells, no matter how much it sucks. Sounds like something else I know...oh yeah...political music. People buy it because of the message, regardless of how shitty the music itself is.

while it probably does have something to do with people who are struggling and find solace in god as well as the idea that christian music can sell despite being crap (most music that sells a lot is generally shit anyway, largely due to the tendency for companies to take the soul out of it etc).

However i also think that artistic people generally get attracted to 'religious' ideas, partly beacuse of the fact of inspiration often having the feeling of being guided by something stronger than the self and music especially being strongly connected and consistent with mystical experience.

I think Christian music used to be that way, but now it's kinda "hip" to listen to Christian musicians. As I lay Dying, UnderOath, akissforjersey, Norma Jean, and The Devil Wears Prada are all bands who have very obvious Christian lyrics and they all have a butt-load of fans as well.
