Imperialists - hands off from Sri Lanka!
Suddenly the tension has reached to its climax. The small tear drop shaped island in the Indian Ocean has become a very important issue to the so called international community. Recently the British parliament hold a 4 to 5 hours debate focusing on the tiny island as many were saying that “democracy” and “human rights” of the country is been violated. Irony is the same British parliament which passed the independence bill of Sri Lanka in1948 didn’t even spent 15 minutes to do so.
‘Special” representatives from the UN are keeping on their endless visits to the country. Louis arbor-a UN agent recently announced that the human rights condition in the island is so bad therefore a human rights observation centre of the UN should be established as soon as possible [Although her visit was only for 2 days. Seems like she studied hard to come to such conclusion]
So what is happening here?
The important fact is based on the same old story.
Studies clearly proved that there are oil resources in the northern sea belt of the island. This news which was revealed in the beginning of the century made a radical change in the approach of the western states towards the island. The national question of the nation {Which was increased as a result of British colonialism}has a long history. It turned in to a civil war in 1980s. The love which wasn’t there for so many years have suddenly occurred in the hearts of the “Western democrats” towards the people of the country- as the above discovery was done.
A racist and a fascist movement which demands for the separation of the country (the LTTE) is currently in war with the government forces. They demand a separate state for the Tamils in the north and eastern provinces. In other words their demand paves the way to divide the masses-including the proleteriate, along the lines of ethnicity.
Here the west has found their match. They have begun to use this movement as a cat paw to fulfill their interests. Imperialist forces sponsored by the royal Norwegian government blame the Sri Lankan state continuously for war and want them to come in to the negotiation table. this blame has become a threat currently as the civil war conditions have got unfavorable to the LTTE.People who know the reality of the situation will clearly say who began the war and who wanted the war, it was the LTTE which violated the ceasefire agreement (which was there for 3 years since 2002) and began the war by murdering 63 civilians in Kebithigollewa, a remote and a rural area.
In the other hand the government of Sri Lanka –mainly consisted from opportunistic bunch of national bourgeoisie has proved again and again that it doesn’t have a solution to the problem. Unlike the LTTE they at least accept the freedom for others to do politics, and in that sense they can be consider slightly more progressive. But that is not enough to the country. Their corrupted behavior has increased frustration among the common masses and their dogmatic nature which doesn’t have an understanding about imperialism has increased the crisis.
As a result of this the influence of imperialism is becoming more and more powerful. This does not only affect the island nation but it is also will be a threat to the region, especially India. A future separate Tamil state-which is under the interests of imperialists, has a possibility to become the Israel of the region. According to the things which take place it is obvious that a direct imperialist mediation to the island can be happen in the near future. It may come under the banner of the UN but whatever the surface is the depth is made from interests of imperialism.
Though the slogans are from the UN it is obvious that who belongs the voice.
DEFEAT THE LTTE!
DOWN WITH THE BOURGEISE GOVERNMENT!
IMPERIALISTS-HANDS OFF FROM SRI LANKA!
