Neither. The Obama campaign is the most radical option: it's a multi-racial campaign, driven mainly by students, to elect a mixed-race formerly coke-addicted president with a Muslim father. It's probably the first, and last time, we'll see a hood brother on TV without fitting some kind of stereotype.

It doesn't matter. They daren't touch capital (not that they want to) so it means more of the same shit. Democrats and Republicans are like the Tories and New Labour in that they are just different wings of the same party. There are probably more policy differences within than without. Bourgeois democracy is a spectacle that has developed because the ruling class has had to put up a pathetic cloak of legitimacy. Its a pointless game played by millions and there is always the same winner; the bourgeoisie. The bourgeoisie are kings of their realm and these elections do not challenge that in any way, they merely choose their managers.

It will probably be either John Edwards, because the Midwest and southern states (their votes actually decide who wins) are not socially advanced enough to vote for a woman or a black man, or Rudy Giuliani if somehow the whole fucking country forgets the (not-so-important) fact that he's a Republican, his inactivity in the wake of 9-11, his support for the "War on Terror" and his support for the Iraq occupation.
The platform of whoever wins will dissipate and the domestic situation will worsen. Mass protest will become suppressed, the economy collapses, and riot will spread. Martial Law will be declared and several blocs of states will secede from the Union. Civil war rages.
In 2012 a nuclear bomb detonates during the President's unelected inaugural speech in Washington D.C... ah Shattered Union.

Well, of course is doesn't much matter, but the democrats are marginally better than the republicans on civil liberties, so I prefer them. Something in me despises Hilary Clinton especially though, and I like the idea of the U.S.A electorate being brave enough to overcome all that latent prejudice of having a black man in office, so I think it'd be pretty kick arse to have Obama.

Somewhere, somehow, this thread turned from who one THINKS will be the next U.S. to whom one HOPES will be the next U.S. president.
It is technically possible for Mr. Cheney to be the next U.S. President.
I will interpret the question to mean: "Who do I believe will be elected President of the United States of America in November, 2008, and sworn in January 20, 2009?"
It is foolish not to believe the following statement: "The Forty-Fourth Presidency of the United States is Hillary Clinton's to lose."
I don't care about what people keep saying "too many people hate her and that she's un-electale". Plenty of people said that Reagan was too extreem and unelectable and he won easily in 1980 and killed Mondale in 84.
Personally (you heard it here first), I believe it will be a Clinton-Obama ticket.
The Republican party couldn't be elected dog catcher in '08.

THANK YOU, Serpent.
and regardless of the "American empire" statement, whether one is a commie or cappie, they, as I, can appreciate such a statement here!!!
Usually, we (or idiots) in the Revolutionary Left, make the blanket statement that a black candidate will never be elected president. Such utter bullshit!
At one time it was argued and discussed as fact that a divorce could not be elected, and Reagan proved that wrong. Same about a Jew, and one received the greatest popular vote for vice president. Same about a woman, and next year will prove that wrong.
OF COURSE, one day an African-American, Asian-American, Latin-American man or woman will be U.S. President! Duh!
Anyway; thanks Serpent for treating him as a general enemy to Socialism, and not as some "unreachable dream" candidate.

This is hardly a correction. To be U.S. President requiers you preserve, protect, and defend the Consitution of the United States. Obviously this nearly prevents a revolutionary from becoming president. Also, our amendment procedure makes it impossible for what's happened to the Venezuelan constitution to happen in the USA.
Even those presidents who came from very humble beginnings, such as Lincoln or A. Johnson, Truman, or L.B. Johnson, by the time they'er president, they themselves, are members of the ruling class.

Don’t forget his support of torture in American prisons and waterboarding. Plus the fact that he's a complete racist fucktard who encouraged racial profiling in New York and told people on 9/11, "Thank god George Bush is our president."

Yeah, Rev0lt, this is a prediction board, but preditions should be made while not on crack.
#1 - The inauguration to preserve the Forty-Fourth President, or usher in the new Forty-Fifth President, will be in 2013, not 2012.
#2 - If in 2012, the president is the re-elected president of the election of 2008, there will be no chaos, as succession will be based on the current administration.
#3 - Should in 2012, the president elected in 2008 NOT be reelected, and it's a new person is being sworn in, and that person dies before reciting (not their inauguration speech, but) their oath of office, this will test the untested Section 3 of the 20th Amendment, which provides for such a circumstance.

Maybe we both need to have a bit of humor about all of it. I don't know of the video game of which you speak. The funny thing about the "free health care" claim is that Hillary isn't even promising universal health care. Instead of letting the state pay for the welfare of its citizens, she wants to amend the laws so that it's ILLEGAL not to have health insurance, the same way it's technically illegal for a person to drive a car without car insurance. All she's doing is promising to make the worker's lives more miserable.
And Obama and Hillary, like all democrazts, just want to "gradually draw down" the war. You won't see any decisive action, believe you me.

While I didn't go to such lengths per se (although it has popped into my mind) I actually think that, most likely, no matter who gets elected things will go even deeper "to shit" (well its a little more complicated than that...What I meant is that its possible to see the democrats "pull an LBJ" and do the opposite, that is continue the occupation, in respects to the Middle Eastern wars. The reaction to this {hopefully something similar to the late 60s;the same reaction to LBJ's troop surge} might be beneficial to the Left. Also the economy seems to be going down, although I heard that the prediction is just a "small recession.")

I'd be surprised if Hillary won. She's definatly an experienced candidate, but it's hard for a woman with political convictions to win an election. If she were a guy with the same political convictions, she'd probably be way ahead in the DP polls. I don't really like her politics anyway, but it's nice that people are actually considering a female president. The idea of the most powerfull person in the world being a female is pretty big. If she were more fiscaly and socialy proggressive, and if I were old enough to vote and registered, she'd definately get my vote.
I don't even know if Obama has a good chance of winning. He's mixed, so he's already got a mark against him. We're both mixed, so I have something in common with him, but he's still a liberal, so I don't really agree with him on much more than social stances.
For the republicans, Juliani is really the only one I can see that is doing really well. I don't really pay that much attention to the republicans because my area's overwhelmingly liberal. If women can get an abortion, people start to defend Brown V. Board of ed and someone's pushing really hard for equal marriage rights, I'll survive.
