Behind enemy lines
20th December 2002, 10:26
The next big event in the ACA calendar is a five-day study/retreat on Waiheke Island in Auckland harbour in
the third week of January. It begins the day after the 'Big Day Out' in Auckland, so interested people can
take that in as well. At the study we will also be talking about plans for the ACA for the following six months
up to our next national conference at Queen's Birthday weekend.
We have the use of a five-bedroom holiday house on the island for a week, thanks to an ACA supporter. So
all it will cost people is a share of the food money, plus whatever it costs to get you there. Below is the
schedule for the five days:
SATURDAY, Jan 18
morning: free
afternoon: Study of an essay from EngelsÕ Dialectics of Nature, led by Daphna (Auckland ACA)
night: Discussion of some aspect of Lenin's State and Revolution, led by Jared (Wellington ACA)
SUNDAY, Jan 19
morning: Capital study, looking at Marx's method, led by Phil (Christchurch ACA)
afternoon: Study of Lenin on dialectics from a short, but concentrated section in his pamphlet Karl Marx, led
by Daphna

exploitation, use-value, exchange-value, surplus-value (all from vol 1), led by Phil

night: informal discussion on common questions people ask about socialism, or make in defence of
capitalism, and how best to answer them. Bring along your questions/examples!

afternoon: Lenin study, looking at the section on 'Should revolutionaries work in reactionary trade unions?'
from his pamphlet Left-wing communism: an infantile disorder, led by Jared

WEDNESDAY, Jan 22

afternoon: Lenin study, on 'The struggle against which enemies within the working-class movement helped
Bolshevism?' from Left-wing communism: an infantile disorder, led by a Wellington ACAer.
night: free
As people can see, there is a fair bit of time left during the day for relaxation, shopping and cafe-ing,
swimming (the beach is only 100 yards away). We will also spend an hour a day on some manual
work - cleaning, cooking, helping round the property.
Numbers are limited, so people need to let us know before Christmas if they wish to come.
Preference is also given to active ACA members.
Anyone who is interested contact me.
