I've always thought patriotism was retarded.
an old quote I found once went like this "patriotism is the belief that one country is better than the rest because you are born in it"

hahaha It's kinda funny with the music and all. LIke seriously all that drama over one little flag.

What are you upset about the flag being on the ground or the people heckling them?

Indeed.

That is the view of many americans, though.

"You were born in America so you should be proud of it."

I find this fucked because many americans look at people of other nations as being "less fortunate", etc. while it is americans who for the mostpart act out of blind patriotism i.e. "I'll die for my country regardless of the reason" and other bullshit. that is generally the idea. and the shit about the "correct way to get rid of a flag" or "that it cannot touch the ground" is just fucked. seriously. there are better things to give a fuck about.

I think its pretty clear that the guys in the viddeo didnt actually give a shit about the correct way to fly the flag - theywere simply aiming to make the red necks look ridiculous

I've always went by the quote of Thomas Payne "A patriot is one who protects their country from their government"

i wasn't saying in regard to the video, but american patriotism in general

Patriots (or those who advocate patriotism, especially blind patriotism) do so with the intention of transforming the entire nation into one of blind sheep.

i.e. like this:

patriot 1: "the war on terrorism is the key to democracy"
patriot 2: "i would proudly die for my country. for american democracy."
patriot 1: "our most honorable american citizens are to fight in the name of democracy. you will be one of them."
patriot 2: "yes, sir!"

(they end by saluting the flag)

It wasn't so much that folks were upset. They just wanted to show the hypocrisy of those who would make patriotism the most important thing in the world.

I'm new here. I wasn't sure where to put it. If moderators can move this to the appropriate spot, that would be cool.
