Well it appears that working long hours (Or working for more time than is required) is on the rise!

What are your opinions on this?

I know the nature of work has changed dramatically in the UK from the old factory jobs where the bell ringing signalled the end of the working day and that most jobs are now office based or managerial but the fact is people shouldnt have to work longer than is required.

I am personally a great believer in the Socialist 8-8-8 principle (8 hours work, 8 hours recreation and 8 hours rest equals 24 hours of a day) from monday to friday which means that you work a 40 hour week (Which is 8 hours less than the current 48 hour standard).

I also believe, as this is affecting the family, that we should have an Eastern European style free educational nursery system as part of our welfare system where the children of parents who are both working are in the care of people employed by the state so that the parents who both work dont have to worry about getting someone to baby sit or employing a nanny.

What is unfair as well is that workers who dont agree to wave working hour limits and work overtime are often sacked for their refusual to not do something which they are legally entitled to refuse!

This is a perfect example of why we need a Socialist system in place.

The Socialist 8-8-8 principle is outdated. I honestly see no reason why a worker need work more than 4 to 6 hours a day with current technology. I believe most people choose to work longer hours because of international inflation, which causes the price of many good to skyrocket. Since workers usually get paid extra for overtime, being on call for longer hours is the only way most can still have their standard of living.

I use to be for an alternating 4 day weekend. One week, one works M-Th and the next week they work T-F, on 8 hour days. However, I think I am more for the 6 or 7 hour work day. I just hate that I am at work 9 hours a day.

Of course its un-fair hence why capitialism has got to go. im just saying that this isnt anything new like i said before my father works 16hrs a day? fucking 19th century capitalism or what?

longer workhours are a problem
sme jobs do not even alow for people to spend any time with their families

when i was working in insallations for a company that sold and installed ofice cubicles and furniture my ork days on average where 10 hours. the problem was, (i enjoyed the long hours because it was during the sumer and i wanted the money)i never knew what time in the morning i was going to start and what time at night i would end. the company would keep us at work in the designated ofice untill our bposses deemed us having compleed enough work during the day to meet the unrealistic time frames to complete the work. i would sometimes work 14 hour shifts. this for me was troublesom, but even moreso for those who lived off this job. men who supported families doing tbhis and never had time to see their children of wives. unfortunately many of them had university degrees from Bulgaria and Romania whch ae useless here. i fel bad for people who have to bust there ass to raise a family and are stuck in jobs taking them nowhere.
