I am hoping to get some supertorrents invites circulating like rocker935 did with stmusic. http://www.revleft.com/index.php?showtopic=73276&st=0

supertorrents works the same way as stmusic but is not strictly music.

The way i am hoping this will work is that someone who has an extra code will PM it to someone that wants it, in return the reciever of the invite code will PM their code back to the original person.

The only problem is that i dont have an invite, so i cant start this... if anyone has an extra i would be grateful.

thanks :redstar:

I was just informed that unlike stmusic, supertorrents does not give you 2 invites upon joining so this may be hard to do. Invites are rewards for downloading a certain amount.

I thought invite codes were rewards for uploading a certain amount to the site.

They are for stmusic.org but i have two friends with supertorrent.org acccounts and neither of them ever got invite codes. I think you get them from uploading and seeding but im not sure. They may even be rewards for downloading or maybe the ratio. I do know for sure that if you pay $20 to the site in donatations, you get 10 invites and 15 gigs of uplaods that can be used as rewards and so you dont have to upload or seed for a while.

Sweet! Can you pay like that on ST? I don't know how to work with torrents, or I would upload my scant collection.

im pretty sure that Supertorrents (ST) is the only one that you can pay and receive rewards, but stmusic (STm) gives you 2 invites for joining.

Have you ever done anything with torrents?

From what I read stmusic does not give out invites anymore. You have to have a certain ratio or be a donating member.

I checked yesterday. I was hoping for an invite from someone, and even posted in the STMusic.org invite thread. But I still have no invite.

No, actually. I've been wanting to try, but I don't really know how they work. Any place with good beginner's guides that you reccommend?

The basic idea of a torrent is a decentralized p2p. That is, there is no file on some central server. However, a server (the tracker) is used to connect peers to each other, so that a file (the torrent) can be shared. This allows for higher download speeds in general. It also prevents some of the legal issues that napster was hit with.

So the way it works... First one needs a torrent client (utorrent, azureus, bitTornado, etc.). Then one needs to find the desired torrent, and this is where the torrent site comes in. These torrent sites (i.e. suppertorrent) just list the torrents available through the tracker they use. One downloads the torrent from the torrent site and opens it in their torrent client. The torrent is then downloaded via the client. It is pretty simple.

There are some pitfalls. One cannot guaranty the torrent is virus free when they download it, and is one big reason to use a torrent site that requires membership. Additionally, torrent sites with memberships require a upload/download ratio to be met. This allows for higher download speeds.

Download speeds and one's ratio can be greatly affected by ones firewall settings. One needs to forward or open the port that their client is using.

I hate to resurrect an old thread, but ... I have been searching high and low for a SuperTorrent invite with no luck. I have STMusic invites to spare for someone that is a quality torrent ratio person.
thanks
