Comrades, as you are well aware, the military regime in Pakistan has decided it will crush popular dissent by heavy-handed suppression of labor unionists, political leaders and progressive students.

Over the past decades, it is difficult to ascertain just how many people were illegally abducted and murdered by successive military rulers.
Throughout our history, progressive and revolutionary forces have been attacked and systematically destroyed.

Among the numerous victims of the military-dominated state was the martyr Hassan Nasir, a respected leader of the communist and labor movement in Pakistan. He was among those who were arrested and tortured to death during the previous military regime.

The repression and torture of the 80s has returned to Pakistan now. Hell, when did it ever leave in the first place? ;)

I have posted a video which shows Pakistani police and intelligence services attacking and torturing dissidents.
Click here (http://wrathofhephaestus.wordpress.com/2007/11/23/missing/) to take a look.

And here are my comments on the footage:

In its efforts to hold on to its economic privileges, the military of Pakistan is prepared to use any and all means to crush popular dissent. Illegal abduction, detention and torture of Pakistani citizens is a major weapon in the repressive arsenal of the military regime.

The Chief Justice ruffled quite a few feathers in the military and intelligence top-brass when he began looking into these illegal activities of the state. I wrote about it earlier, in this post.

It has come to light that over the past years, the military regime has also been handing over illegally abducted citizens of Pakistan to the US military and intelligence community. It is known that some of the people arrested by Pakistani authorities ended up in the American gulag at Guantanamo.

Under the current situation of martial law, the military regime is free to plumb new depths of cruelty and depravity in its desperation to hold on to power.

Here is a well-made documentary on the missing dissidents of Pakistan:

Look at the unbridled brutality of the police.
Notice the anguish of mothers whose offspring are rotting in secret detention centres operated by our “security” forces.

Be it today, tomorrow, or in a thousand years, the people of this land will have their revenge. Let the world be witness to the atrocities of our rulers, so that when our time comes, nobody dares to hold us back.

Let’s swear by every grain of soil in our land that all this pain will be paid back…with interest!

Is there any, even if wide, estimate on how many citizens have been abducted?

That was a very frustrating video to watch, especially when Amina's son was being nearly stripped naked. Of course there are worse that weren't recorded.

It is also frustrating feeling powerless on the side which has perpetuated the daily repression of most people's of the world.

Great closing statement comrade, may justice will be served soon enough.

Down with that rotten puppet regime.

Victory to the people's of Pakistan!

And of course this sickening government are Bush's friends and buddies in his "War on Terrorism." This is that state to which all imperialist rulers--Bush included--will be headed soon. Many nations have become more authoritarian and statist to the point where they may torture and imprison their own people without a trail or even a formal charge.

That was a difficult video to watch, and difficult still because I see where the governments of America and the UK are headed too, and what they've helped to scatter throughout like the world like the proverbial apple seeds. I hope I hear of thousands of guerrillas storming Pakistan soon. There shall be no justice until all of these rich bloodsuckers are gutted and bled like the pigs they are.

@ rev0lt:

I worked with Amnesty International on this issue. Apparently, they have compiled dossiers on nearly 500 cases of "disappeared people" which were scheduled to be heard in court, but were postponed by the government for various reasons.

And these are cases which have been properly reported and brought before human-rights groups.

If I were to estimate the total number of disappearances under Musharraf's military rule, it would be a number somewhere in the thousands.

I am aware of around 400 Baloch nationalists, human rights activists and journalists disappearing in around three nights before Musharraf visited Balochistan last year.

True enough.

Although, having said that, the Pakistani revolutionary movement is weak, and needs time to build up its strength.

And hopefully these guerillas gain their inspiration from Bhagat Singh as opposed to Ayatollah Khomeini.

Atrocious. Yet I doubt the US government will condemn the Pakastani government for being "enemies of freedom" anytime soon.

There are extremist subsects within both of Islam's primary divisions. And while there are relevant differences between Sunnis and Shiites, in this case your statement amounts to a distinction without a difference.
