Are freelances apart of the proles or petty-bourgeois? They sell their labor to bosses just like proles but they are not employed perse.

apathy maybe

They are employed. They just have a different boss more often then 'normal' employers. Of course, you could consider them petit-bourgeois as well, as they own their own tools etc.

Consider the contractors in the forestry sector, they own their own machinery (the "means of production"), they then hire themselves out to the companies who 'own' the particular trees.

Well, actually, I would suggest that this sort of question is border case. And in my opinion these various border cases add up to making the Marxian class analysis not as strong as what so many people seem to think. (But that is not an argument I'm interested in having here, I've had it too many times before.)

It all depends on many factors...

Some free-lancers are like proles others are like petit-bourgeoisie...

I suppose...?

I suppose some classed tends to have much overlap between one another these days?

hmm...
