I can safely say I'm greatly surprised there aren't more people on here that are R.A.T.M. fans. Is there any reason specifically? I know that they were on a major record label and claimed to be socialists but the message they preached was still good and they got their point across perfectly. De La Rocha is an avid supporter of the Zapatista Movement. He even went to Mexico for a while to aid them.
I mean, if someone doesn't like that music then whatever it's a opinonated issue.
Anyone's opinions?

Actually, I would say that most people here are fans of them.
I just find their music gives me a headache - rap mixed with rock music =
They have some ' okay' songs though.

They have some great songs. How did you come to the conclusion that there aren't a lot of RATM fans here?

There are a ton of RATM fans here, but I'm not really one of them anymore. I used to like them, but their music gets so boring after a while. Musically, I don't really like them because, if I had to think of a word to describe their sound, it would be thin. There isn't that much depth to their music, and it bores me.

the problem with RATM is, although they're great they've become a cliche'. I somewhat expect this is the reason people are reluctant to wear their fandom on their sleeve. What we need are more RATM style bands that are equally bolshy. Unfortunately, i've yet to hear one that truly cuts the mustard.

Well yeah, they are definitely mainstream, and don't have some theoretical background. But as a school kid I liked them the most, and now I still like to hear to some of their songs.
Former members of RATM have some interesting projects (like The Nightwatchman).
Also, who liked RATM probably will like Outernational (http://www.outernational.net/). Morello blessed them :D
p.s. coachella audio recordings are avaible at the net ;) just google it.

There are literally dozens of threads on this shitty band, I wish new people would use the search function.

I agree. Except on the "shitty" part.

I like them, both musically and politically. I think they've also written some tribute songs to the Shining Path movement in Peru. I'm surprised that Audioslave managed to get to Cuba before them (even though Audioslave has some R.A.T.M. people). That concert did a lot to weaken the effects of the Blockade, at least psychologically.

I am pretty sure they have not written any songs about the Shinning path (though I think the bomb track video has some shinning path stuff in it). Tom Morello has a shinning path sticker on one of his guitars though. He was asked about it in an interview.
"Q: How can you support a terrorist organization, guilty of genocide, in a country that you have never set foot on or seen with your own eyes (Sendero Luminoso)?
A: I’m glad that you mentioned that it was Sendero Luminoso because I thought you might be talking about the US army in Iraq. Sendero, as you may know, has been defunct for, I believe, over a decade now. While I would never support any violence against any civilian populations, Sendero’s mission of bringing a more just and more equitable society to Peru is a worthy goal. It is my hope that your indignation about civilian casualties and human rights can be directed against your own government who are currently committing such crimes in the Middle East."
