There are people who claim to hate everything the Beatles ever made and people who claim to love all of their music. Basically both categories of people are liars.
John Lennon bugged me because, its all well and good singing about revolution and change, it raises issues people wouldn't probably have given any thought to otherwise. But it's easier to shout from the rooftops about "Power to the people!" when you've got millions in the bank and EMI are paying for your studio time than it is to do something about it when you're struggling to afford the bus fare to work, where you struggle by on an average wage that you're trying to bring a family up on.
Bono is a modern day version of this syndrome, an eco warrior who uses up a thousand times more resources than he needs to putting on elaborate stage shows, a campaigner for us all to contribute towards clearing third world debt who probably has sufficent funds he'll never need to use in the bank to wipe out a large chunk of it.
Musically, John Lennon, likewise Bob Dylan, made a few really good stand out tracks, but there was an awful lot and a lot of awful space filler in between.
And what are we to make of Paul McCartney still making dirgey pointless music well past its sell by date?
