Yeah I found it really interesting. He did praise Cuba.

But yea even though Michael Moore's a moderate, I wanted to show these insurance bastards their own medicine:

Barge into one's office, inject them with snake venom with the view of the antidote, and say "You have 5 minutes before you will die. If you do not give us 10000, then you will. If you do, I will inject the serum. Meantime, you will be in agony.

Also a good way to raise funds :)

How would they give you 10000 in 5 minutes whilst in agony? Write you a cheque?

They might find a way. Or they might fail and die.

Either way, it's a bonus...

Has anyone seen it? What are your opinions on the film? What on Michael Moore?

It is a very interesting film, but it is very biased.

This does belong in L&F so I'm gonna move it over there.

Sorry, I didn't know.
Could you mind expounding on how it's biased?

Sicko documents the ills of capitalism (http://massesmediamagazine.com/news.php?extend.11)

Well, I havent seen it in a while, so I'll speak on what I remember. It seemed as though it said that the health care was good because of the government, and that we should rely on the government to watch our asses, and it kind of takes the human element out of it.

I liked it, it pointed out the faults in American capitalism. Michael Moore

I liked it. Michael Moore, while he is not a revolutionary, effectively points out and popularizes the flaws of capitalism. While he does not universalize this to the entire system, he show that it fails in healthcare and I think the leap (to capitalism in it's totality) can be readily made.

It also shows that Socialism (Cuba) or socialist policies can be effective. This is something that a lot of people in the U.S. assume is by default untrue.

I don't know which is sicker: The state of America's healthcare system or the state of my stomach after Moore told me to vote for the Paul Martin Liberals.

Michael Moore... Ironically, when I was young, I was a HUGE fan of his.
Me and my Comrades went to see Sicko together, and at mor ethan one point, we had our fists raised in the air.

I don't know which is sicker: The state of America's healthcare system or the state of my stomach after Moore told me to vote for the Paul Martin Liberals.

As far as that is concerned, Comrade Sandra smith of CPC-ML once told me that of course Michael Moore is an idiot, but he does make certain concepts and ideas mainstream that otherwise wouldn't be.

Now, I'm not saying that Michael Moore is going to "lead the revolution"; I'm not even saying that he is a revolutionary, or a socialist; I'm saying he makes certain ideas mainstream that otherwise wouldn't be ,and I can respect that. If sicko convinces the masses of the United States that there are some merits to Cuban socialism, then who gives a shit that Moore is a reformist liberal/social democrat?
If I want revolutionary ideas, I'll read the classics; if I want to at least spark political discussion, and create a situation among people that would make them receptive to new points of view, I may use Michael Moore.

Michael Moore attempts to show the American people that there are other ways to do things. Regardless if he's as far left as others means nothing; he's attempting to show possible resolutions to serious problems in America.

I hope he continues to make movies.

Fahrenheit 9/11 was excellent and I guarantee when I see Sicko I'll like it.

I thought the movie was worth renting. I had expected it to be mostly boring political arguments, but I was surprised. I learned things I didn't know before, such as in France, there was both free day care and free university. New parents also got free nanny service. I was hoping he'd talk about the Scandinavian benefits more, but he didn't.

I would call Moore a moderate revolutionary. He's further left than most of the people who watch prime time news in America, though he's not as openly leftist as the people on these boards. There's probably some logic to that - if he appears too extreme, he won't be convincing too many people to switch parties or consider non-capitalist viewpoints.

Doubt he's a red. Look at his waistline, as compared to German Communist propaganda of the 20's and early 30's.
