I love the NHS launch event
The NHS is nearing its 60th birthday and UNISON wants the whole country to join the party
(18/10/07) UNISON today issued a challenge to all NHS workers, patients and supporters to make the I love the NHS march and rally on 3 November the "biggest, brightest, boldest" event of the year.

"The NHS is nearing its 60th birthday and we want the whole country to join the party," said Karen Jennings, the union's head of health, speaking at the NHS Together event launch in Westminster.

"There is not a single person in the UK that has not been touched by the NHS at some time in their lives," Ms Jennings said.

"We all benefit from a fantastic healthcare system that is open to all, does not demand payment up front, and is a world leader.

"I will be there - I challenge the great British public to make this a day to remember."

Ms Jennings continued: "Working in the NHS is a tough job and staff are not always given the appreciation they deserve - look no further than this year's pay award.

"Financial consultants think they know better than hospital consultants, politicians what's best for patients, and policy gurus how GPs should practice.

"It's time to let the experts - the people who work in and use the NHS - steer the service in the right direction."

The I love the NHS event is being organised by the 15 unions and organisations involved in the NHS Together campaign.

On Saturday 3 November, supporters will gather on the Embankment from 11am. The march will set off at noon accompanied by music, stilt walkers and banners. The rally in Trafalgar Square will feature a lively mix of speeches, comedy and videos.

Anyone wanna come?
Some of those Class War stickers would be good too, "Mess with our NHS, and we'll mess with you"
