In news from India, about 25,000 protesters have arrived in Delhi after marching 200 miles to demand the redistribution of land to the poor and landless. The protesters began marching on October 2, the birthday of independence leader Mahatma Gandhi. March organizers said forty percent of Indians are now landless and 23% of them are in abject poverty. Many of the marchers are farmers who have been forced from their land to make way for government-backed economic projects.

I'm very conflicted about this turn of developments. On the one hand, what the landless protesters want is to become part of the petit-bourgeoisie (1). This has been addressed in my Kautsky thread (http://www.revleft.com/index.php?showtopic=65638&view=findpost&p=1292303250).
On the other hand, this is a question of ongoing "primitive accumulation" (1'), and almost every capitalist government worldwide isn't very keen on fully industrializing food production (2'). So, given the two offsetting points, unless the projects have to do with industrialized farming or, as an alternative, urbanization, then I'm probably on the side of the Indian poor peasantry.
