View Full Version : Say NO to tap water!

Tap water is putting unfair pressure on the bottled water industry. How are entrepreneurs supposed to compete with practicly "free" (i.e. communist) tap water?

Remember that the tapflushers [i.e. evil-doers] is living on sombody elses expense! There is no such thing as a free lunch!

Well, over here it is free. And great.

Where is "over here"?

In Norway I am pretty sure a lot of us pay bills for water... I don't know if it is just hot water..

In a lot of places you just pay a fixed charge for the use of the pipes basically, making the water itself free in practice, once you start using a certain amount.

And indeed by some of the logic we see in OI...

It's not here. It's $23 per 17.8 kL.

Not really, since they're usually set up by the local government using tax money... so it's no freer than tap water.

My tap water comes from an artesian well so it is free as long as the submersible pump doesn't have to be replaced.

A funny satire reveals the sad fact that in many countries, especially post-colonial nations, potable tap water was only facilitated when revolutionary groups came into power. A good neo-liberal will tell you that clean drinking water is not a natural human right.

I live in rural Ohio--but I live not too far from the Uranium enrichment plant (I could literally get there in 15 minutes), so I don't drink the water unless I have to. I do shower though.

Tap water, bottled water. Rain water, well water. Water in a jug, water in a can. Flavored water, seltzered water, mineral water, spring water. Water with caffeine, water with electrolytes, water with fluoride, water with carbohydrates.

Isn't it grand to have choices?

When I lived in Kansas we had free water that came from a pump, which I guess would make it technically not free since you had to pay for the electricity. Yay for free water.
This could be used for good propaganda, never thought about calling it supporting communism, :D

Surely the more relevant threat from tap water as identified by General Jack D. Ripper is that water fluoridation is a Communist plot to impurify precisions bodily fluids.

Ripper: Mandrake?
Mandrake: Yes, Jack?
Ripper: Have you ever seen a Commie drink a glass of water?
Mandrake: Well, I can't say I have.
Ripper: Vodka, that's what they drink, isn't it? Never water?
Mandrake: Well, I-I believe that's what they drink, Jack, yes.
Ripper: On no account will a Commie ever drink water, and not without good reason.
Mandrake: Oh, eh, yes. I, uhm, can't quite see what you're getting at, Jack.
Ripper: Water, that's what I'm getting at, water. Mandrake, water is the source of all life. Seven-tenths of this earth's surface is water. Why, do you realize that seventy percent of you is water?
Mandrake: Uh, uh, Good Lord!
Ripper: And as human beings, you and I need fresh, pure water to replenish our precious bodily fluids.
Mandrake: Yes. (he begins to chuckle nervously)
Ripper: Are you beginning to understand?
Mandrake: Yes. (more laughter)
Ripper: Mandrake. Mandrake, have you never wondered why I drink only distilled water, or rain water, and only pure-grain alcohol?
Mandrake: Well, it did occur to me, Jack, yes.
Ripper: Have you ever heard of a thing called fluoridation. Fluoridation of water?
Mandrake: Uh? Yes, I-I have heard of that, Jack, yes. Yes.
Ripper: Well, do you know what it is?
Mandrake: No, no I don't know what it is, no.
Ripper: Do you realize that fluoridation is the most monstrously conceived and dangerous Communist plot we have ever had to face?

Classic movie, :D

Might I ask upon what evidence you base your assumption that your local tap water is unacceptably contaminated by the uranium enrichment plant? Do you know there's probably a sewage plant that's closer? What makes a sewage plant less likely to contaminate your tap water than a uranium enrichment plant?

I suspect your avoidance of the local tap water has more to do with "OMGZ t3h radiationz!!11!!!1!" than any rational kind of reason.

In Sweden and Norway, tap water is generally cleaner than botted water, and rather abundant. In most other countries, the tap water is very chlorized.

The water is free, it is the service that is not free. But I guess that is splitting hairs.

What's wrong with chlorinated water? Seems to me to be a cheap and easy way of providing tap water that is less likely to give one raging diahorrhea, especially if water treatment facilities are insuffecient.

EPA requires that Alpha and Beta contamination be pretty low. If there was Alpha or Beta contamination in you local water they would not be able to get a permit.

How the hell does tap water promote any kind of communism:
-I buy my pipes from the best plumber
-I drink from the best purified water I can find in the city, and avoid places with bad water
-I look for the best and cheapest Well Installation company
-I only buy good purification systems

Sounds like a lot of competition to me

Pick one. I would be surprised if you found a driller that was actually good and cheap. I deal with water well drillers regularlu, most are quite clueless.

I think everyone knows supporting tap water is not communist, pretty funny stuff. Bottled water tastes better, but is it any better for you than tap water? No. Remember, would you rather put the money in the hands of a government or a private entity?
I rather put in the money where I can control, to an extent, where it goes. And If you don't have to pay for water, your lucky.
