Of all the former SSRs, the most intriguing I've come across is the relatively small (1.5 mil or so pop.) Turkmenistan.

I just wanted to know the nature of this state from my fellow comrades who may know more about it, or have been there. I've found little about it on the internet.

Is Niyazov a leftist?, what is it like there?, police repression of leftist activities? Those would be my initial questions, but any insight would be helpful.

Thanks, comrades.

Niyazov is dead. And no, he didn't appear to be a leftist. He also had a blatant personality cult and had reactionary social views.

When did Niyazov die? I haven't heard anything about Turkmenistan in about a year.

Who replaced him anyway?

Wait--found it.

Niyazov was a kook, and made some incredibly bizarre presidential decrees.
