The leader of the former Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev, has founded a new political movement in Russia.

Mr Gorbachev told the founding congress of the Union of Social-Democrats that its mission was to fight against "negative tendencies" and corruption.

He said it supported President Vladimir Putin's efforts to reform Russia.

The new movement will not take part in general elections in December, which are expected to be won by the United Russia party, backed by Mr Putin.

I think it's pretty clear now (if it wasn't already) that Gorbachev is a joke.

Didn't his current "social-democratic" party disband?

that's a shame. I think if the Soviet didn't suffer from the type of misleadership characterized by this pig, it would not have been dissolved

On the other hand, if the Soviet Union was not in its way to dissolution, it would not have suffered Gorbachev's leadership...

Limonov, Gorbachev, and Kasparov are the best allies of Putin. They are together turning the Russian opposition into a 0,05% movement.

If Gorbachev's political views were not clear yet, they certainly are now.

Let no one claim that this man is or ever was a communist.

The next best Russian opposition is the Communist Party of the Russian Federation but they're kind of Stalinist (maybe more for the nationalistic sense) and they put up millionaire candidates and well..........that's a contradiction by itself, a millionaire communist.

But I don't know any more about it. If anyone can tell me more about them, please do tell. Are they good??? Are they real or are they the same state capitalists as the people from the last days of the Soviet Union??

They just seem like nationalists to me with some Communist rhetoric. If put in power they'll probably adopt some leftist reforms, but nothing Socialist.

the CPRF alligned itself with the National Bolsheviks in crusading against immigration...

If this social-democratic-malarky doesn't seek to oppose Putin, I can't see it having any forseeable use than farcically attempting to cast Gorbachev in to the public light to nurture his ego

What an individualistic interpretation.

The USSR was rotten. And rotten things dissolve into earth. And that fact seems to suprise you?

Marxists on the other hand, had no illusions about the Soviet Union.

Everyone is whoring around with Limonov now. He has activists, and lots of them.

Even the USA has begun supporting the nazbols.

And given the current political consensus in Russia, the national bolsheviks are viewed as libertarian socialists.

Only because they're the only fascists around without anti-communist hysteria, no?

Because the other fascists would make the NSDAP look liberal maybe?

Serpent, your kidding about Liminov having such a sway.

Anyone can see him and the Nazbols lack vision.

Yes, their liberalisation has led to splinters, but they have more money and influence now. Most likely, Limonov will ensure that the liberal opposition is digested. Most Russians dislike Limonov.
