The revolutions in 1789 and 1917 where by no means occuring as a form of barricade warfare between the ruling class and the revolutionary class, but could be more viewed as an example of how a revolutionary class, or rather, an alliance of revolutionary classes takes power in a vacuum from decrepid and already collapsed systems. Both France in 1789 and Russia in 1917 where depleted both economically, morally and ideologically, and ready to fall at any movement.

The Revolutionary class may maybe not have had revolutionary sentiments just a few years before, but will take the chance to take power when the old order has turned bankcrupt.

For the proletariat to ascend into power, the foundation for that to happen is not primarily desperation and poverty, but rather an already established influence in the technical and economical management of the system in question. When the step happens, it will appear as natural, because the old system has become unnatural.

Engineers (the labor aristocracy) may not have revolutionary sentiments today, but the step will appear as natural the day when this current order no longer has any means to present believable solutions to problems. The labor aristocracy is not a problem, but actually a part of the key to the solution.
