Hey e'rybody. I'm a kid from the Northeast U.S., headed off to college soon, who's been involved with leftist politics for just a few years now. I first start to get into politics in general when I was started writing for a comic book my friends and I intended to make in our spare time. In the process of writing the comic, I started reading up on the history of particularly troubled areas of the world, to get some background on the evils our character would fight. Unfortunately for the right-of-center me of the past, it turned out that more often than not, I could trace back the worst of the troubles back to the United States, which was a pretty huge shock for me, coming from a military family. So, I kept reading.
That started my interest in politics, philosophy, psychology, sociology and my hunger for information on these subjects, which led me here, where I lurked for ages. Then, after a debate with a friend about "high society" which ended with me declaring "fuck you, I'm joining the communist party", I decided to join up.
And so here I am.
I consider myself a libertarian socialist.
And we never finished that comic book.

Welcome! Hope you enjoy your time as a poster here. :)
How did that argument go which ended up splitting your friend and the project?

The project fell apart long, long ago. Those particular friends were just lazy, so nothing got drawn.
The argument I mentioned happened a few minutes ago, and started over a comment about Cosmopolitan magazine, and turned into my friend trying to explain her fixation on glamour and "high society". Somewhere in the middle of it a debate about how the workers should control the profits of an industry...etc. Then we got back on topic.
After I told her that this "high society" of hers seems to focus an awful lot on mindless consumerism, she told me she had to go to bed and we'd talk more about it the tomorrow. Then I jokingly say "Well, fuck you, I'm joining the communist party". It's a reference to some webcomic. We laugh about it. She goes to bed, then, I end up here.
Pretty much how it went.

Better than I expected, that you two didn't split over that!
Well, can't wait to get to hear your views on the main forums. Welcome again. ;)

I'm really into working on comics too. Good to have another comic type on the boards!
Is your name a Watchmen reference?

Hi! Welcome
:)
I could trace back the worst of the troubles back to the United States, which was a pretty huge shock for me, coming from a military family. So, I kept reading.
Actually that was my first step left wards, although I didn't have much problems realizing/accepting it due to the fact that I lived in a US colony where the US have committed their fair share of injustices.
In history I began to notice how the US placed many dictatorships (including Saddam and the Taliban, which, ironically, they've recently had problems with.) all because a few elected "communists" (most of the time they weren't) began doing land reforms or were to friendly with the USSR (or other reasons, for example, Saddam was important for the US because of the Iraq-Iran war.).
