East Germany's communist youth organization, the Free German Youth, is back and canvassing for new members. The country's domestic intelligence agency, which tracks potentially anti-democratic behavior, is keeping an eye on its activities.

anyway i happen to think that this type of organization is a good idea, however i am not totally sure that this would be able to break the monopoly hold on youth scouting the Boy Scouts of America have in the united states.

thoughts on this organization in particular or this type of group in general?

Interesting idea.

I support the idea of organisations that promote outdoor activity, environmentalism (and by this I do mean the sort which involves not leaving rubbish in the bush...) and skills.

I don't support organisations that promote religion, nationalism and similar.

So, we have a problem that most organisations that do the first, also do the second.

If this "Communist" organisation can do the first, but with a left wing bent, well that is surely better then an organisation that does the first, but with a right-wing bent.
