I wasnt sure if this should go into History or Learning, so ive put it in here.
Im in a bit of an argument with someone who's posted a decidedly dubious video on YouTube, which seems to be absolving Hitler as a "protector of his people and their traditions, victimised by a Zionist plot". Im trying not to get into a slanging match with the kid, rather i would liek to back up arguments with fact. I just need a bit of help makign a couple of points:
1 - how much did the US, and Roosevelt in Particular, know about the Atrocities in Stalins USSR Pre-War? My impression of it is that much of the information about the maltreatment of people didnt come out until after WW2, but i may be wrong.
2 - Would the US have entered WW2 if they had not been attacked by the Japanese?
My impression is that, even if FDR had known about the Atrocites in either USSR or the Holocaust then, at that time (early-mid 30's) he had things closer to home to sort out.
Ive also heard somewhere that to the US a Fascist Europe was preferable to a communist one, and this is one of he reasons for the US's neutrality pre pearl harbor.
Any info would be nice, thanks.
