The mobilization in Washington to attack Iran has begun, and it's been covered, but not prominently, across many mainstream (http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2007/10/08/071008fa_fact_hersh?printable=true) news sources. The Democrats pushed legislation that labeled the Iranian Revolutionary Guards as a "terrorist organization"; the Pentagon has put together a list of 2000 bombing targets across the country; the White House has been increasing its pressure on Tehran; the mobilization across Washington is the same that lead up to the invasion of Iraq in 2003.

If the U.S. instigates or outright attacks Iran, initiating a new front on the neocons "War on Terror", what would the consequences be for Americans? Furthermore, seeing as the move towards war is being actively supported by Democrats such as Lieberman and Hillary Clinton, how will it reflect on the state of American politics?

As horrible as it is to imagine another invasion in the Middle East, I think it would go a long way in revealing how fraudulent Washington truly is. It would disillusion everyone who held their tongue and their fists, and put their hope in the Democrats to stabilize the shift rightward in American politics. Finally, it would be a perfect chance for the revolutionary left to reveal how these wars for profit will not end under capitalism, and may provide the fertile ground for a revolution within the States.

Make it an issue of "national security" and they can push anything through.

Those who disagree will be considered treasonous for opposing government in a time of war. Then afterwards, when everything's fucked up, no one will have to take the blame for the money wasted and the lives lost.

To suggest that anything will be learned on the side of the American populace is idiotic. People live in the present, and when they believe something now, they act as if they always believed it - same when they change their minds. If powerful interests want America to go to war, we will.

I don't doubt that the US will invade Iran, but I don't hold the reactionary view that nobody will even care. People are already massively disillusioned with the war in iraq, and anti-war politicians have been the hope of the less-than-revolutionary left since Bush got into office. But what happens when people lose all faith in their political system? Usually, revolution.

Usually, but America is filled with capitalist leaders large groups of Hyper-Christian mad men who are brought up to hate Marx and all he stands for. Therefore It is unlikely that enough people would back the revolution.
