I find it very odd that the Russian White army used the Red and Black flag. I realise that the flag was not to be used on the left until probably about 10 years later (The zapatistas, Cuban Syndicalists the CNT etc), but what was the symbolic meaning of it in this context?

Opps! Its the stupid work computers colour settings.

However. I have seen other images that show the horizontal red and black used in the Russian civil war.

In which case I would simply add, who used it, and why. But I still suspect it was the white army.

I think the flag in this picture contains a very dark blue.

Maybe they identified politically with the anti-working class aims of the Russian anarchist movement?

Although, that aside, the flag in picture is obviously the "tradtional" red, white and blue Russian flag.

That's what I was thinking. The Aims of the anarchist movement, the self emancipation of the workers and the construction of a free system of soviets was certain in line with other anti-working class ideas. Such as Tsarism.

Examples of what I mean.

yes, if you look carefully it does also have a white stripe at the top so it is the tsarist russian tricolour.
