Sorry if the title's a little inappropriate but Bushy is so far over the line (even farther than he was before) he can't even see the fucking line after vetoing the Children's Healthcare Bill.

I live in Ireland and I've seen on TV children picketing in Washington (I think it was Washington anyway) and I watched Jon Stewart coming close to a nervous breakdown but - for those of you who live in America - what is general public feeling about this?

what is general public feeling about this?

Polling Report.com (http://www.pollingreport.com/health3.htm)

"There's a proposal to increase federal spending on children's health insurance by 35 billion dollars over the next five years. It would be funded by an increase in cigarette taxes. Supporters say this would provide insurance for millions of low-income children who are currently uninsured. Opponents say this goes too far in covering children in families that can afford health insurance on their own. Do you support or oppose this increased funding for this program?" Options rotated

Support: 72%
Oppose: 25 %
Unsure: 3%

Even some die-hard conservatives I know thought that the bill should've been supported.

Even questions that allude to higher taxes support universal health insurance.

A lot of people are pissed off at this. Hey if he's not spending 35 billion on Children's good health then he is most likely going to put it towards the war.

 and that my friend has become a very unpopular Issue.

I was pissed, and I   NEVER   support a raise in the cigarette tax.

[A 61 cent raise in the cig tax was what was supposed to fund the program.]

Everyone I know, even the hard-right folks, was absolutely outraged, although ironically they were equally outraged when he passed that 400 billion dollar prescription drug bill for old people. Most people hate Bush, albeit often for stupid cappie reasons.

Bush doesn't even care anymore. He even said that if everyone in America opposed him, he'd maintain the same policies. Blocking healthcare for children really is disgusting, and the Democrats can't even raise hell about it (they're too busy passing legislation to legitimize even more wiretapping and spying on Americans), as usual.

maybe if anything positive can be construed it will be for every attack that bush makes on ordinary americans it will be a step closer to the general populace realising they need to think left before they cast their vote next time.

this is just another example of how the american government doesn't rule in the interests of the people- all in the name of capitalism. Bush makes me sick. he'd rather waste it all on the fucking war than give a shit about the american people.
