Elie Wiesel is a right-wing Zionist scumbag. His support for Israel in the face of all the atrocities it has committed is nothing short of revolting, for example after Ariel Sharon used the Sabra and Shantila refugees as target practice for his mercenaries, he said that he felt "sadness with Israel, not sadness against Israel" and that "we shouldn't even comment while the investigation is still on". He has made an entire business off of cheapening the moral coinage of the Holocaust so he can profit. And it should be noted that he himself was a member of the Irgun terrorists known for their attacks on Palestinian civilians during the 1930s and 40s. In my mind, this wipes out any merit he can claim and more for being a Holocaust survivor.

Oh, and as if that wasn't enough, he was one of the main guys who convinced Bush that the war in Iraq was the right thing to do. Of course, he had the safety of Israel on his mind...

I agree that an artist's art should not be judged on his politics. But when the art itself has reactionary political content, such as the two sequels to Night, all bets are off.
