I read that somewhere that communism can only exist once all nations of the world have become socialist. Is this true?

Also I'm not quite sure about whether you can call yourself a Marxist if you are socialist not a communist could someone help me out?

I would say not necessarily, given resources within a country or such, but socialism in one country is a really stupid theory.

Marxists are radical socialists, ie communists, I guess. If I understand your question.

Essentialy yes, because the state is an instrument of organised violence used by one class to suppress another,as long as there are classes a state will exist.Socialism has a state, this is used to fight off the bourgeoisie, when there are no bourgeoisie the state will whither away.

Marxism is a set of ideas which include communism.

Well, it's all speculation, isn't it? Socialism has yet to be achieved, let alone communism. I'd be inclined to say a good portion of the world would have to be socialist for communism to be achieved. Otherwise plenty of resources and an arsenal of willing people to stand up against any capitalist/statist/neo-fuedalist Empire wouldn't exist and we could be back to square 1.

Although if communism is achieved I doubt the "outside world" would want to keep its status quo of work, go home, watch TV, and sleep.
