New Black Panther Party for Self Defense to Organize Coalition to Secure and Protect
Jena 6 Families and the streets of Jena.


Washington D.C.September 23, 2007.Malik Shabazz, Esq., Attorney and leader of the New Black Panther Party for Self Defense, announced today that members of the New Black Panther Party will begin patrolling the streets of Jena, Louisiana this week to protect the Jena 6 families and Black Jena residents against open and imminent threats of Ku Klux Klan and White supremacist violence.

Dr. Shabazz announced that The New Black Panther Party was spearheading a coalition entitled The Security and Protection Committee of the Jena 6 (SPC-Jena 6) which would include several organizations and volunteers from around the nation that will coordinate and protect against Neo-Nazi and Ku Klux Klan types operating in that part of Louisiana. This coalition will include the New Black Panther Party for Self Defense, the Millions More Movement, the Black Muslims, volunteers from the local Jena Community and National Civil Rights Organizations. The coalition will coordinate and lead an all volunteer effort that will man shifts and provide personal security for the Jena 6 families as well as local residents under the threat of Klan intimidation in the wake of the successful September 20th march in Jena.

Recently several White Supremacist websites posted the names addresses and phone numbers of the Jena 6 families and urging “White Citizens to do Justice to the Jena 6”. Several families of the Jena 6 have been called and threatened by racist white supremacists and other Klan types groups with hanging nooses have been seen frequenting the area with confederate flags. Sadly, the Jena police department and the county Sheriff have announced that they would not provide protection for the families of the Jena 6 under threat.

Malik Shabazz, Esq. said:

“As Black leadership, we have a moral and ethical Obligation to secure the safety and security of the Jena 6 families and the Black residents of Jena Louisiana. The New Black Panther Party, the Millions More Movement, and other volunteers from Civil rights organizations will spearhead a nationwide call to provide security, patrols and protection for the families and residents over the upcoming months.”



Attorney Shabazz also said:

“This threat is real. The September 20TH, which we were a part of organizing, has created a resentment and backlash in certain quarters of the white community in Jena. In the spirit of the Deacons of Defense, we intend to exercise our full range of legal rights of defense and protection to ensure that this very real threat of violence is neutralized. I want to be clear, in the name of God we as Black
Men will not stand idly by and be weak in this hour”.

Ok, I for one am happy to see the NBPP take the intiative in organizing this community security effort, which the families are in need of since they cannot depend on the racist local police force to secure their wellbeing. Also very glad to see the NOI, the local Jena community and Civil Rights and grassroots organizations getting involved in this effort as well.

And if you didn't know Bobby Seale wasn't the only BPP member. That being said there are old BPP members that are supporters of the NBPP and even members themselves.

The NBPPSD is not supported by many old Black Panthers. In fact, many sued the NBPP for using the Black Panther name. The NBPP doesn't focus on a Marxist analysis of history, but rallies around ethnic nationalism, as they came directly out of the Nation of Islam. While of course I support anyone willing to patrol the streets to protect lives, the NBPP is hardly a revolutionary organisation.

I don't think anyone but the most delusional members of this board would argue that the NBPP are a revolutionary organisation but this action represents action taken by a threatened community against those threatening them and as such should be applauded. Welcome to the reality of the United States..........

The weakness of the left and the small numbers of the left show themselves everyday.

Plus the African-Americans would trust the reactionary forces as long as the cover themselves as black liberators MORE than the general revolutionary leftist community.

In order for the African-American community to get stronger, they must first get rid of the reactionary and petty bourgeoisie forces (Al Sharpton, Cornell West, etc) within their community themselves. Only this way can they advance to get stronger.

How can you say that when i personally know OG Black Panthers. My community had a parade and we had old Black Panther members marching with the NBPP! If that's not some form of solidarity then i don't know what it is! The OG's could've distanced themselves by not marching, or marching seperately from them.

Like i said, there were thousands of BPP members throughout the country, Bobby Seale isn't the only Black Panther alive today. Which BPP member doesn't support the NBPP? Is it Angela Davis who ran for President under the CPUSA ticket? Or was it Elaine Brown who ran for President under the Green Party Ticket?

The NBPP isn't going to liberate the black community, nor is any other organizations. The liberation will be done by the people themselves. This will take place due to a growth in consciousness and militancy through revolutionary direct action and activities which can begin with community patrols and defense of the Jena 6 families.

Leave it up to the left, those families would have never been protected.

the New Black Panther Party are, from what I've seen, a racist anti-semetic, nationalist group, certainly not something positive. I don't know how big the KKK is but from what I can assertain its not a big threat anymore, there are a lot of Neo-Nazis and Skinheads, but a lot of those are more just white street gangs rather than real racist groups.
