What Would Jesus Do?
Obey The U.S. Government

"Like Jesus the founding fathers of the United States are rising from the dead - but they're not ascending into heaven. Instead, they're heading right for the White House. Imagine my surprise when I discovered from worldnetdaily.com, that the American government's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has initiated a program that teaches pastors and other religious leaders how to quell dissent among their congregations, using religious rhetoric in the event of a declaration of martial law.
Martial law is the takeover of the normal functions of the government by the military. This might occur in the event of a war, for example, so that a country can more effectively protect itself. Of course, there are some obvious downsides to using this extreme political option. Many personal freedoms are often put on hold during these times, arguably for the sake of the greater good.
So, what is the U.S. government trying to achieve? Ironically, the reason why the U.S. government wishes to have an obedient citizenry is because it wants people to comply peacefully with property and firearm seizures, mass vaccinations, and forced relocation in the event of a declaration of martial law.
Unfortunately for the U.S. government, if there is anything we know about the American people, it's that they love their guns and their property. After all, the official motto of New Hampshire is "live free or die."
However, if there's one thing American's are more fanatical about than their guns and property it is, of course, Jesus. So, how can the American government possibly take property and guns away from its citizens in the event of martial law? Simple! They use pastors and other religious figures to convince their congregations that Jesus would want them to simply obey their government.
However, Jesus does not just right out say anywhere in the Bible that citizens should hand over their guns and property to the government if it asks nicely. Jesus says to give unto Caesar what is Caesar's, but that was in reference to taxes, and not guns. So, what does the U.S. government do to solve this dilemma? It takes some pointers from none other than history's greatest monster, Adolf.
Now, we must remember that the people of Germany during the 1930s were not actually evil hate-mongers. They were actually very good people - honest, law-abiding citizens in fact. Unfortunately, most German citizens had the unfortunate quality of blindly following whatever people told them was true about their religion and society. But how does Hitler factor into this situation?
In the Bible, Romans 13 teaches Christians to obey their government, because that government was set up by God to rule them, and to defy that government is to defy God. So, what did Hitler do? What any homicidal maniac would do: Hitler told everyone to support him because, as Romans 13 says, the government is backed by God himself. Most Germans, however, happened to miss the part of the Bible where it says that people do not have to obey a government that defies any of God's commands.
So, I suppose it will no longer seem surprising that the U.S. government is now instructing pastors across the U.S. to preach Romans 13 to their congregations in an attempt to make them more docile in the event of a declaration of martial law.
Now, if most Americans are actually convinced by Romans 13 to blindly follow their government, they are committing the same tragic mistake as many Germans once did. And the American government is committing the same sort of deception upon its own people that Hitler committed upon his. That the U.S. government would take advantage of its own people in this way is truly foreboding.
But, on the other hand, in the event of a national emergency, what's so bad about the U.S. government trying to make the transition to martial law as smooth as possible? Won't this save more lives? Won't the end justify the means? Perhaps FEMA will save more lives by implementing this program rather than employing another strategy. However, this program has many serious and dire consequences.
Besides the government clearly meddling with religion, which is in utter violation of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution; these actions, if effective, lead the U.S. down a dangerous path. If Americans are convinced that their religion demands from them obedience to the government, then the U.S. federal government's power will go both unchecked and unbalanced in an ominous and alarming fashion.
As anyone who knows his politics will tell you, the people of a democratic society are supposed to be the ones who demand obedience from the government, not the other way around. If citizens stop believing that they are the ones who are supposed to be in control of their government, the government becomes free to run its own show.
And just imagine what the U.S. government would be capable of with the blind support of its people. If American history is any guide, I would guess that loving thy neighbour would not be high on its list of priorities."

In my opinion this is just another one of many dubious actions the government is taking before they declare Martial Law. I fully believe they'll do it. If another terrorist attack occurs, they'll definitely do it. Earlier this summer Bush just issued another policy on that scenario. Google 'NSPD-51/HSPD-20'

If I was a pastor and a government agent told me what to preach I'd shove my foot so far up his ass it'd break off. Metaphorically of course.

I have heard about this... somewhere. Makes me really angry. How could a preacher stand for this, it boggles my mind. Just like it boggles my mind that a Christian can support the government to begin with. :(

n the Bible, Romans 13 teaches Christians to obey their government, because that government was set up by God to rule them, and to defy that government is to defy God.

That is an outright lie!!

Most Germans, however, happened to miss the part of the Bible where it says that people do not have to obey a government that defies any of God's commands.

That and the entire 1 Samuels 8.

Romans 13:

13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
13:2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
Does this mean that the only real power is divine, and power which man has over other men is not necessarily really power? Or does it mean that all who get power deserve it, since it is God's will?

13:3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
13:4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to [execute] wrath upon him that doeth evil.
The author must know that not all kings are Christian, or follow the commandments. This lends more to the idea that submission is ideally toward God's will, and less that it is about other kinds of submission.

13:5 Wherefore [ye] must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.
13:6 For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.
13:7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute [is due]; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.
13:8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
Love is the ultimate will of God? Could it be that the bible supports this claim? :-P

13:9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if [there be] any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
13:10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love [is] the fulfilling of the law.
Again, love encompasses all of the law - but now, not only is love good in and of itself, but is claimed to be the basis for all other commandments. Perhaps this is the authority to which the author references?

13:11 And that, knowing the time, that now [it is] high time to awake out of sleep: for now [is] our salvation nearer than when we believed.
13:12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
13:13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
13:14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to [fulfil] the lusts [thereof].
Again the trend against hedonism. Not a bad thing. And that is the entirety of Romans 13. If its message is one of submission to the state, it is a pretty mixed one, because it says in the same breath to follow God, Jesus and a divine law of Love - this law being that love is not just the only requirement, but supercedes debt and encompasses all other good deeds.

A huge crowd had gathered as Jesus was nailed to the cross. As Jesus surveyed the crowd he saw St. Peter at the back. He strained to call him, 'Peter, Peter'

Peter tried to get though the crowd, pushing people as he went.

Still Jesus cried 'Peter, Peter'

'I'm coming Lord' shouted Peter as he worked his way through the crowd. Eventually he reached the foot of Jesus' cross and asked, 'What is it, Lord?'

And Jesus said, 'Peter I can see your house from here!'

Reason number 82 why Christianity sucks:

And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar's, and unto God the things which be God's.

I was raised a Mormon (I'm originally from Utah) and believe me that religion is one of the furthest things from communism.

Remember what comes previously? The coin with Caesar's head on it?

Work it out in your head.

I, meanwhile, wonder how one would "render unto God" without burning useful stuff, which is remarkably inefficient and completely pointless.

The point of the coin is that money is a "graven" idol, not to be worshipped.

"Render unto god" means to use for God's ends. As in giving bread to the starving. Since everything is supposed to have been made by God, it is all "His," and therefore "there [is] nothing left for Caesar" and burning it is unnecessary - to "make it God's," it must simply be used for "His" ends.

Paying Taxes to Caesar
15Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap him in his words. 16They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians. "Teacher," they said, "we know you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren't swayed by men, because you pay no attention to who they are. 17Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?"

18But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, "You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me? 19Show me the coin used for paying the tax." They brought him a denarius, 20and he asked them, "Whose portrait is this? And whose inscription?"

21"Caesar's," they replied.
Then he said to them, "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's."

22When they heard this, they were amazed. So they left him and went away.

The disciples asked him whether you should pay taxes, not whether you should worship Caesar.

Way to see the hidden meaning. You do realize that he never actually said pay taxes to him right? The coin is just a chunk of metal, it has no real meaning,

Matthew 6:24

I have held on to this belief since I first joined this awesome sight. I believe that by being a Christian I must defy the state and bend no knee to it. I must actively resist it and do everything I can to help bring about its destruction. While I am an anarchist I also believe in the Christian God, which is why I call myself a Christian anarchist and not just an anarchist. And being locked away on some trumped up charges will not make me stop believing.
