This is my first post, let alone my first thread, so have mercy.
The revolution that is destined to wipe out capitalism and achieve a more Utopian state- I hear it often described as inevitable, as if it will happen, it must happen, because capitalism will defeat its self, as Marx described. But I look out on the world now and I'm not so sure, in fact I'm scared. I don't feel as if this will happen, I feel as if its becoming more and more unlikely. The capitalists have been able to get out of the industrialized hell that was alive a century ago by feeding us mass-produced products they tell us we want, at amazing low prices. And they have made the majority tame because of it. I don't know how many people were 'tame' a century ago, but I assume it was less, as factory jobs were more abundant and people of course hated the way they were treated there, which is why we saw movements taking place back then. Now anything left of Reagan (whom, from now on, when I use his name, should be synonymous with a Christian speaking of Satan or the anti-christ [he'd fit the role well]) is treated as indefinite evil, I live in a world where 'communist' is and insult, if you are labeled one, you don't hold a chance in office. Socialists follow and idiotic ideology that will never work, and anarchists are rambunctious teens who don't know shit. Thats the world, the hell I live in, and this is why I feel that that revolution for change, for progress, for a better world, is slipping away, as more people conform, as he become machines, as Orwell's hell emerges, slowly, with smiles and applause, watching TV as the Elite take more for themselves, and fool us to think we can do it to, that greed is good, that this world is righteous. So I am asking you, is the revolution very much alive, is it still achievable? I feel I've met far to many hawks, conservatives, and ignorant people to see a real change. I mean, people think Ron Paul is the best candidate out there! What can we do to change this, to stop sitting in our chairs typing away as that day of Fascism draws near, and to stand up, to not just voice our opinions amongst like-minded people but to the masses, and to be heard, not scoffed, and respected. Can we create that world we all want, where left-wing parties can say what they want and and 'communist' isn't a slur, can we do it? I want it to happen, I want to be in that world, but I just don't know if its possible. The worst part is, the times I question if I am thinking the right thing, the times I feel as if, maybe socialism, or the like is wrong, those are the days I feel as if the system is getting to me, and I want to know, and that is another thing I am asking you, that what I think is right, that we need this kind of change to live in a better world, that capitalism, a flawed free market system, 2 mirror political parties, and Reagan are all wrong.
So please tell me, is that old idea still alive and well and is it still feasible?
And am I doing the right thing when I agree with this kind of movement?
This is my political mid-life crisis, thank you.
