Probably not for long, the Chinese Communist Party can take the Red out of anything. ;)

its difficult to find up to date space exploration info that isnt from a right wing rag.

Yes, why are right-wing magazines generally more fascinated by space exploration?

I mean, fascist parties use to have things about UFO;s and such in their manifestos. Strange...

Its crazy. If anything, it should be us, as progressive thinkers that are the ones interested in science. The reactionaries should still be chasing and burning witches while blaming anyone who doesnt believe in god for contagious diseases!

maybe it's the fact that technology seems to have dissillusioned people to the realities of life, and that there is so much capital being wasted on new technologies that are TOTALLY USELESS (Big screen TVs, Videogames, bigger SUVs, better machien guns, etc..)

We should be interesting in science, but we should not be dependent on unneccesary capitalist media and military tech. There seems to be the confusion amongst those on the left that BETTER TECH = BETTER SCIENCE, which is totally untrue. And those who think that better science is being done, will immediately react and claim that it will be used "to repress the people" and those who see more repressive tech claim that science will be used to make even more repressive tech.

It's an endless cycle.

when the technology is for massive expensive space adventures when there is a massive proportion of the population in need to much needed devlopment.

maybe technology is seen as evil by the 'lefties' is as the technology should be used for practical methods not shows of power,

i really agree with the guy who said about the big screen tvs, SUV, etc.. consumerism is the new opium of the masses,

I feel pretty strongly that space exploration is not useless or a waste of money. It might not be our absolute highest priority, but it's not down there with SUVs and HD televisions.

The major drawback is how closely science, technology and space exploration are always tied into the military. Seems the only thing that will part the ruling class with their money is developing new ways of inflicting violence on human beings.

I personally think that space exploration should be, in some manners at least, an extremely high priority, one of the most fundamental goals of the species. But it's long-term, and the short-term survival and protection-from-itself of the species is in the short term much more important.
