Has anybody seen this film? Situationist theory dubbed on top of a kung fu film. Here is a bit of it from youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wPCiyjtBfo

Also, it has an imdb listing whose review says:

"Please forgive her for being a Marxist, she just doesn't know better." was not the line in the film. the overdubbed story was that the little boy rejected the little girl for retaining her illusions about Castro. the guy then goes to the (now crying) little girl and tells her she shouldn't keep her illusions about Castro.

see it with a good translation....if you liked Woody Allens' 'What's Up Tiger Lilly', Dialectics is much funnier. though the jokes mostly are in line with leftists disillusionment with state socialism, if one isn't familiar with that line of thinking the jokes will seem very obscure....there definitely should be more 'detourned' films of this manner.

It sounds great!

There have been several threads on this in the past few months.

But, nonetheless classic detournement! It's quite humorous as well.

Also, I really think Kung Faux (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kung_faux) got their idea from Can Dialectics Break Bricks?.

I saw it a month ago. Pretty good, but it drags a bit as there is obviously only so much you can say within the frame of political detournment.

I haven't seen Kung Faux, but stay away from 18 Fingers of Death. That was the most unfunny attempt at humour I have ever see, with exception of the one joke about Chinese Jews.

"Do you have Chinese Jews?"
"No, only orange juice."

Yea, so that ws the funniest part.

I gotta' see this one though, all the comrades are talking about it.

I downloaded it through a torrent and think it's just a hoot and a half.

Not recommended for orthodox Marxists or anarchists unfamiliar with dialectics. Jus sayin.

Can Dialectics Brake Bricks? or La dialectique peut elle casser des briques? is a french situationist satire of the dominant (self-defeating) ideology (of leftists) -- conveyed through an old (re-?)dubbed kung-fu film. I think they're method is called detourment. Being made in 1973 it seems situationists were, style-wise, ahead of movies such as Kung Pow.

So, if putting situationist slogans into kungfu-fighters mouths won't make you laugh, I don't know what will. However it is all in french and subtitled. So you might have to pause a bit.

The film can be found in parts on youtube. Here's the whole movie, in parts by logical prosession:

Cheers for posting the full thing on Youtube, which I don't think has been done before.

Here (http://anonym.to/?http://thepiratebay.org/tor/3469033/Can_dialectics_break_bricks_") is a link to a torrent.

If anyone is interested in looking at previous discussions, if you search the title, you'll find several old threads about the film.

Enjoy. ;)
