Today, the Associated Press reported on a national protest that the ANSWER Coalition held that led to almost two-hundred arrests.

Activists yesterday became victims to police aggression when protestors staged a "die-in" on the lawn of the Capitol. After police took no action, some jumped the barrier separating them from the Capitol steps, where they clashed with police. Several were arrested without struggle, but others grew angry as the police with riot equipment attempted to drive them back. At least two people were sprayed with chemical spray.

By the end of the day, over 190 people were arrested.

It's time for action!
============================================

We can't let something like this deter us from our goal. In fact, it should be more fuel for the flames. The next major mass actions occur from September 22-29 when activists camp out outside of Congress and hold DAILY mass actions protesting the war.

MARCH ON WASHINGTON SEPTEMBER 22-29!

============================================
The reformism of many anti-war organizations
============================================

The reason for ANSWER's protest on the 15 was that it must coincide with national legislation regarding the war. Their goal was to influence the corrupt politicians that they had been denouncing for some time!

This is called reformism, and it is the belief that the ills of imperialism can be reformed away over a period of time, and that the rich ruling class will "let" representatives of the working class take power. This is not true, and this belief is exactly what the imperialists want us to think, because it means we're not a threat!

Similarly, the goal of the March on Washington on the 22-29 is mainly to influence the politicians to oppose the war. But they are not going to do that because the war is in their best interest.

If we are to achieve anything we must make a decisive break from all bourgeois politicians including the Democratic Party and its allies which many anti-war organizations have failed to do. In short, to build an effective mass movement, we must throw off the misconception that there are "saviors" from above who will "fix" the problem of imperialism, because that just isn't going to happen.

=============================================
So what do we do?
=============================================

We attend and popularize mass actions like the ones on September 22-29, but we do it independently from the organizations leading it. We have to distribute agitation that advertises these mass actions while encouraging a decisive break from the Democratic Party.

In other words, we must advertise the anti-war movement without advertising the organizations involved and their reformism.
