Any good ones? The only one I've seen is Pulgasari from North Korea (Who's status as a socialist state is debatable). I'm currently in the process of downloading "White Sun of the Desert", a classic Russian western from the 70's.
Any particular movies you've seen that are particularly grand?

Just a question.........are you getting that from some torrent site or newsnet or IRC room??? If so please do provide a link.
And to everyone, I would also be interested in such movies.

I got it from the Pirate Bay (http://thepiratebay.org/). Just search up "White Sun of the Desert". It should be there.
It's sadly one of the only Eastern bloc movies I've been able to find =(.

I know it's made in retrospect, but "Goodbye Lenin" is good. Very sad at the end.

Sergei Eisenstein's Battleship Potemkin. It's a landmark film, both artistically and politically. He also made Alexander Nevsky, which is a bit more nationalistic (it was made during the Stalin era), but still amazing.

See also October 1917. Never seen Potemkin, but October ends with the workers taking over, so much affection.

Dersu Uzala (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dersu_Uzala_(1975_film))
This was a 1975 joint effort between the USSR movie company Mosfilm and Japanese director Akira Kurosawa.

White Sun of the Desert is very good. I'd also recommend "The Twelve Chairs", 1971 film directed by Leonid Gaidai, starring Archil Gomiashvili, Sergei Filippov, and Yuri Nikulin from the Soviet Union. great film although it contains a lot of word play and it would be good if you could understand russian.

Ironicly, more people died in the movie storming the winter palace than during the real storming. ;)

You might want to check out Godard's "Weekend," a French film that came out in the revolutionary year of 1968. In the middle of the film there is a long monologue encouraging anti-imperialist resistence in third world countries. A French New Wave classic. There was also a couple of noteworthy films that came out of Poland in the 1970's by Andre Wajeda called "Man of Iron" and "Man of Steel."
